Basically we are going to be seeing both Ben and Ahsoka at some point in Rebels. So not sure how that effects weaving things into the main story. So far the crew has been hitting small level targets and the highest level enemy they have encountered is the Inquisitor. No Grand Moffs or anything super high level yet.

I kind of hope they keep it that way. Because it is fun having them on the periphery. I think their contact though is Mon Mothma or maybe Senator Organa. Anyone hoping for some Garm Bel Iblis? It is the right time period for his original shenanigans which lead to his split with Mon Mothma. Maybe they end up in his camp?

That Ashoka doesn't match the Rebels style at all, so I'm highly skeptical of that image.

I'm wondering if the new book about Luke between ESB and ROTJ will feature Ezra and Kanan? I know the book was written previously and shelved, but I could see part of it being re-written to tie things in.

    More rumors..
I have heard rumors of Ashoka being in the show as far back as May. I know Obi was in the little bit already with the message but I guess he might be back. Also Vader at some point.

I mean there is a lot they can do with out screwing it up with these characters though.

Also is everyone else loving the light sabers being more like the OT? Thin and elegant. Also the sound design is just perfect.

    So good.

They spent so much time researching the original effects they did a great job recreating that feeling.

They really nailed the audio work on this show. I've been consistently impressed with both the use of the music and the recreation of all the sound effects. Really though, damn near everything about this show is great with a blatant amount of love being poured into it.

I'm almost wondering this is gonna become a plot point because the ineffectiveness of his slingshot is causing more and more problems. At some point they're gonna have to let him carry a blaster full time. An episode where he earns his own blaster would be kinda fun.

That damn slingshot is the first weapon that expensive plasteel armor has been effective against.

    Blasters? Nope.

Lightsabers? Like a hot knife through butter.

Maybe it's just to protect from exposure to space and a built in air conditioner/toilet? Would make sense why pilots and other button pushers wear it.

Also it looks cool and evil.

"The standard Kaminoan Clone Army Battlesuit is made from a hardend plasteel alloy designed to vibrate at the molecular level at 1.326 gigajoules per parsec, the exact frequency of the blasters used by Separatist droids, providing maximum protection from all manner of autonomous combat platforms in production by the Trade Federation, the Techno Union, and their affiliated corporate partners.

"It should be cautioned, however, that against most other weaponry, it has a protective strength rating analogous to that of a petrochemical based plastic. Before deploying your new Clone Army against additional foes, we invite you to speak with one of our Customer Care Specialists about our many excellently-priced Re-Equipment Packages in order to retrofit your army with appropriate gear for your new combat requirements."

Of course the real reason that armor almost never protects against anything is that while killing anonymously armored baddies is A-OK for a family friendly show, seeing any kind of consequence of violence is not, which means no wounded troopers.

I'd be inclined to think it's a fake as well, more due to the hard plastic looking missiles than anything I'd read online though.

I don't think it's an S&P restriction (at least not solely an S&P restriction).
I mean, Sabine's been shown using guns and she's apparently about Ezra's age. Slingshots themselves aren't exactly impossibly sci-fi weapons themselves (or particularly difficult to make or expensive to buy), and can injure or kill if not used safely.

Yeah, I get the distinct impression that the series is very much a bit of an homage to the original trilogy. I'm very interested to see what direction they take the series in. What they've got set up right now has plenty of potential for some great dramatic developments.

Given how early Ezra is in his training, I don't think he's even familiar with the idea of the dark and light sides of the force. It makes me wonder how Kanan will breach the subject with him, and how Ezra will handle it. It'd certainly make for an interesting twist if he fails his training and becomes a fallen jedi.

Personally, if any characters from the Clone Wars show up in Rebels, I really hope Rex does. Especially after the Campaign on Umbara. That storyline was just so damn good.

My guess for the end of Rebels:
Ezra and the mandalorian girl are getting married. On Alderaan.

"Do you take mandalorian girl to be your wife?"

    "I d... what's that green light?"

    Credits.

It's cute that this cartoon is so oriented around a family dynamic, which I really don't think I've ever seen in any Star Wars media bits before. We've had the teacher-student thing without any real emotion baked in, but this really makes the youthful family experience front and center.
Jedi as temperamental and somewhat walled-off father, pilot as patient mom, Boba Fette as schoolyard crush, Zeb and the droid as fellow shoulder-punching troublemakers.
I wonder if this perspective is designed to be the core that is easily emotionally accessible to younger viewers and the super flagrant constant Episode 4-flavored sounds and cinematography are there to lure in the older viewers left underwhelmed by the prequels and clone wars spinoffs.

Yeah they are based off the original concept art for the AT-ST. I assume at some point we will also see AT-STs. This new one seems less well armed as it looks like it only has the one gun.

There was a really cool video I found that showed how they pulled the designs. A lot of it is straight up inspired from the original concept art from A New Hope.

This article goes into a bit more detail.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-hill/star-wars-rebels-uses-cha_b_6095820.html

It is pretty awesome. On top of that they spent a lot of time finding ways to recreate the original feel and look. They redid lightsabers to match A New Hope. They redid the blasters to match the original movies and so on.

They spent a crazy amount of time trying to make it feel right and I give them credit.

The only thing I'm wondering, lore-wise, is how there's a Sith who's not Sidious or Vader running around.

  • DiplominatorDiplominator Hardcore Porg Registered User regular
Answers vary. Some hang on the distinction between "evil Force user" and "Sith". Other explanations have more to do with Palpatine not giving a shit about the Rule of Two anymore, since he won and didn't plan on getting supplanted by anyone ever.

Either way there've been Force-sensitive Imperials since the beginning of the EU, from Mara Jade on.

    He's not technically a Sith.
I don't know where the line between "Force empowered bad guy who dresses in a lot of black leather and uses a red lightsaber" and "Sith" is, but apparently it's enough to squeeze the Inquisitor in.

  • HounHoun Registered User regular
I guess I more just meant "who is he, where did he learn DARKSIDE, and why is he seeking out Force-Sensitives?"

Which I guess is really more "backstory me that guy".

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Inquisitor
Not much backstory for him yet. The article doesn't say where he was trained or who trained him, just that he was trained and spent time studying in the Jedi temple. And at some point Vader said "Go kill Jedi, and if there's force sensitive kids that don't want to be evil, you can kill them too." To which the Inquisitor smiled evilly and went to find his murdertunity.

Honestly, I don't know that I want to know more about his background. I mean in the OT, we didn't know shit about Vader, just that he was big, scary and trained with Kenobi at some point. The first time we see him, he's strolling through smoke filled corridor, then snaps some guys neck when he's a little bit slow answering.
When they tried to fill in that backstory, we got the Prequel trilogy, where he said "yippee" and "Now this is podracing" and something about the prevalence of sand on a desert planet..

Sometimes, a little mystery can be a good thing. Especially in such a black and white setting as Star Wars. We didn't need to know anything about the Emperor in ESB or RotJ, it was enough to know that Vader is a badass, and that guy in the bathrobe is his boss.

  • HounHoun Registered User regular
While I agree that the PT was terrible, even in the OT we got the basic Vader backstory:
    - Jedi
    - Obi Wan's Apprentice
    - Fell to the Dark Side

Which is all great info, as it helps better build the parallels between his and Luke's character arcs! That's good enough for me; I know where he came from and how he got where he is in general terms. That's all I'm asking for the Inquisitor, because everything I know as "cannon" (PT, OT, tFU) fits together decently, but it's really light on the concept of other Darksiders floating around during the Imperial time frame.

Basically, I'm interested/curious in the idea that Sidious might have decided to ditch the Rule of Two and form his own Dark Jedi Order, and want to know a bit more.
