The way I figure it, in mantling/becoming the "new" Sheogorath, the Champion essentially had their previous identity - whatever it might have been - entirely overwritten/replaced/consumed. That person is gone. Meet the new Madgod, same as the old.

Which makes me wonder why anyone would ever willingly mantle someone else.

I confess that I'm not really a big fan of TES lore, especially when I heard that apparently the whole universe is just some sleeping god's dream.

Not a dream in literal sense.

There is some pretty deep philosophical undercurrents in TES lore. It shows that at least someone in the story team has been reading some good stuff (maybe smoking some too!).

The whole Sheogorath business is facinating, but didn't happen in my TES. I don't have the SI thus none of that happened. I am happy to follow my own version of the lore if needed. After all, all these are just myths and stories from far away place. Things get murky and even same stories get altered every time you are living (playing) through them again. And there is at least a couple of creation myths in the lore, so who's to say what's the real one?

However, this is a quite nice theory about HoK and Sheo:

"Over time, the Champion assumed the role of Sheogorath. However as evidenced during the events of Skyrim, Sheogorath underwent a personality shift. Rather than his Daedric Quest requiring something along the lines of making it rain flaming dogs, it required curing a long-dead Emperor. This could be a result of both entities, The Champion and Sheogorath, mutually mantling each-other. Sheogorath assuming a more heroic stance, causing him to actually cure madness in a long-dead emperor. The mortal Champion of Cyrodiil on the other hand became more neurotic, leading to his mimicking Sheogorath's eternal leaping across the entire spectrum of madness. "

    elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Mantling

But I have to say that the creation myth of the Readguards is the best in TES. Satakal and stuff. The serpent eating itself again and again, the Far Shores and doomed into mortality... Really good stuff.

I so, so much hope that we get to experience the Readguard world in the next game. Maybe even Yokuda. Or even better, prologue in Yokuda and the great journey to Tamriel. Then, fighting to get a foothold in the coast, gradually expanding the area... That would be so great and the bestest (better than best) thing ever!

I kind of like Redguards, if you guys haven't noticed

Sheogorath at least wore a different vest in Daggerfall.

But a dead dragon fell out of the sky and gave me stuff outside the Blue Palace after the quest.

Enderal, the Skyrim Total Conversion mod, is out for the English speaking folk

Its install is somewhat complicated, compared to bog standard mods. You have to download the zip file via a torrent, then download their launcher, which archives your current skyrim install and patches in the 8gb zip file you downloaded.

From what I've seen, its incredibly beautiful and according to reports, rather fun.

I'm currently downloading it right now, because I totally don't have 50 other games I need to play at the moment because I'm totally not a filthy steam whore.

The joke loses its appeal when you can't use the spell yourself. Levitation's never coming back.

Technically it's just a spell that increase your jump to untontrollable and inevitably fatal levels!

Just now finding out SureAI has a huge Morrowind total conversion aswell in addition to their Skyrim and Oblivion ones.

Always nice to be able to brush some dust off three Bethesda games and find another 100 hours or so under there.

I don't know about the morrowind one, but apparently there is some kind of connected universe between the Oblivion and Skyrim one.

Skyrim one seems to be rather unstable as of the latest patch though..had to do the intro mission 4 times before it didn't crash or freeze at a black screen.

Also Sheogorath gotta Sheogorath because his appearance and personality is based one of the (now formerly) Bethesda developers.

Arktwend seems to be in the same universe as the rest going by some of the names and places I've seen so far that would fit into some of the lore in Nehrim.

The Enderal voice acting has gotten a lot worse as i've gotten further in and started meeting non-important NPCs. Doesn't help they repeat their one idle monologue line every 15 seconds. Or that female bandits always say the exact same thing every time when they see you.

Hoping someone works out how to set up german voices with english subtitles eventually. I can ignore bad voice acting if it's in another language I don't understand.

So, I've had a hankering to replay Oblivion for awhile. Now, it's been AGES since I played it, so I don't remember crap. And also don't want to do too much modding. But of course, it's oblivion, so I want to mod out the big problems.

So I'm looking for the good shit. The best mods to A: Make everyone not look like potatos, and B: Fix the leveling system and level scaling so it's not stupid, but the game also isn't absurdly difficult.

Any other little quality of life mods would be good too. Nothing major though. Just to make the game play a bit better. It's just been so long since I played that I don't remember ANY of the mods.

There's no FMVs but there are a couple non-interactive dialogue sequences. It depends on what part you're at I guess.

    On the boat
After you beat up the two people in the hold a mysterious blindfolded woman (who I couldn't see at all due to the poor lighting) freezes you in place then knocks you out. After that you wake up on the deck and the captain murders your buddy then tosses you both overboard.

After the first temple area thing
You meet two alchemists and they help you out a bit, telling you where to go next then telling you you should get your fever looked at then they get killed by bandits and you are rescued by a kind of temple mercenary recovery specialist dude who then talks at you for a while after that and gets you to help on his mission in return for help with the fever.

Oblivion Character Overhaul will make people look good.

Francesco's overhaul will make the level scaling sane.

As for quality of life mods, I recommend DarNified UI, Enhanced Hotkeys, and this mod, which lets you swap stats between items so you never have to choose between aesthetics and effectiveness.

It might actually be Default German Narratorman. Apparently SureAI somehow gets actual well-known German actors to do their voices.

There's something about Enderal that I'm very eager to get an answer about when I get around to playing it. Spoilers for Nehrim:
I don't know how Tealor Arantheal is even in the game. I'm pretty sure he died in Nehrim. In fact, I'm pretty sure I killed him myself. Tealor's son is also mentioned in the trailer. Unless there's another son I don't know about, that would be Narathzul, who also died in the events of Nehrim. Enderal is a sequel, so neither of them should be there.

Yeah, Oblivion has some serious technical drawbacks. It can't even use more than one CPU, so even a mod like Better Cities, that just puts more stuff on screen without improving textures or anything, slows the game down severely. It's also why everyone gets about 15 FPS in the Dark Forest in Nehrim.

Better Cities works pretty well for me. Can't play without it anymore.

I have lots of textures and graphical mods in general, along with Better Cities and that other that changes landscapes to more interesting, still I haven't had anymore problems than with vanilla(-ish) game. Random crashes still occur, but quite rarely.

You just need to clean mods, make bashed patches and all that extra stuff that often are neglected.

And I never had any powerhouse parts in my rig, 8800GTS and now 660, i3-2120 with them. You just need to be sensible with what textures to use etc. I even modded Skyrim to look a lot better with those parts, no problems whatsoever.

Hardest part is to find mods that work together and suits your taste. It's all about the balance. And Wrye Mash, BOSS (or LOOT now I think), 4gb patch and all those hackish ways to make that godawful engine run a little better.

Since we're on the subject of mods, I have this Fine Black Clothes mod for Skyrim that I like, but it's a little too dark, and makes it look less like a black outfit and more like I just painted my character's body solid black. Is there a quick, easy way I can make it a little lighter?

I'm also looking for a conjurable tent mod similar to this one for Oblivion. Small, but luxurious, and if I can customize the color, that would be good as well.

Edit: Also interested in a mod that makes staff enchanters look less organic. Right now, they look really out of place outside Solstheim, and I want to put some around Skyrim.

This one has a bunch of links in the description. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/64798/
Some of them are bundled in this one. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72220/

This one is separate from the above ones. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15272/
And these are based on that one. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/55930/ http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62710/
Seems like most are either small or luxurious, rather than both.

Yeah, that's too bad. The Adventurer's Tent mod looks like the best candidate, and even it seems to favor a rustic style. I guess it's because Skyrim is harsher than Cyrodiil, so mod makers think classier stuff doesn't really fit, plus there seem to be a lot more "utilitarian survival"-themed mods in general than there were in Oblivion. My sorcerer on the go needs a somewhat-plausible comfy magic tent, damn it!

I know there are some homes that are pocket dimensions instead of tents. Maybe I'll have a look at those. I didn't really want to go into Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion territory, but it might be necessary.

I don't know why something called "Memory of Spring" puts you on cold stone with a stone chair and a brazier emanating blue flame. I would have thought a more natural environment would be in order. Yeah, there's the tree and falling petals, but that just draws attention to how the rest of it really doesn't feel like a "springtime retreat".
