I suspect incidents like this will only become more common in the future.
At this point, I think it is going to take some sort of concerted insurgency action to generate the kind of federal involvement in local PDs that we need.
If anyone has links to better video or from people streaming on location I'd appreciate it.
That WBALTV stream is basically nothing but a constant stream of dog whistles. Holy Shit.
I can't find it at the moment, but there was an incident where a reporter praised the cops for "showing restraint" while a protester "shoved a sign in their faces".

Let's head off the assumptions of the keyboard warriors here and now: There wasn't a protest, a march, a rally, or anything today. Freddie Gray's family had the funeral today, and they wanted peace. This whole fucking thing stemmed from this:
And when all the high schools got out of school around NorthWest Baltimore, they went on a riot and looting spree. Just fuckin' went to town. The police show up, and every 7-11, CVS, and liquor store became a target. This isn't an affirmation that Black Lives Matter, or a statement of rampant inequality, just good ol' plain fashioned larcenous fuckery.

Well that goes against the narrative of people like Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) that the rioters are 'mainly from out of town'

Anchors said the fire department can't get to it because of crowds.
Edit: Shows what they know! Fire dept is there.
edit: Oh I guess that's probably been cleared up, based on your edit.

Sympathy is useless. What is necessary is fear.
So, the police?

The liquor store actually.

So are you condoning the looting/rioting?

I find that doubtful. It's not being reported and there were no rioters anywhere near the fire department. Police had the area cordoned off.
There should be soon, CNN had their cameras right on the hydrant when it happened.
"A riot is the language of the unheard."
I find it deeply unsurprising that today is the day this starts receiving more attention.

MSNBC is stating that people were planning a "purge".
I'm looking around online but one of the anchors mentioned local civic leaders specifically didn't schedule any protests for today.
God dammit
Yeah the funeral being today it was a measure of respect to not do it. Plus the family asked for they said on TV a few times.
That's a nice quote that is taken out of context and is often debated about whether MLK would actually encourage riots in situations like these.
Protests should come first, imo. Then if you are unheard, riots could be used as a way of getting the government's attention.
Going straight from "This is an injustice" to "Riot and Loot all the things" looks like and often is just an excuse used by bad people to riot/loot.
people in baltimore have been protesting for 3 weeks
The organizers, or several of them, did not look amused when interviewed awhile ago.
well, then nevermind!
this is the first i've heard about it
which proves that maybe rioting/looting is the right thing to do in this case.
