Prime 2015 Costume Weapons and Security Info Post

JohnnyConfidenceJohnnyConfidence Registered User new member
Hey Everyone. My name is Johnny Confidence and I've been your Prime Security chief since 2006. Haven't made a lot of posts before but this year though I wanted to share some of the details of the con and what we as the security team can help you with. Also if you have any questions please post away.

Identification
On the show floor the security team will be able to be identified by the reflective Security arm bands and our enforcer shirts.
Due to the success of the Tiara we will be bringing it back as well this year. All security personnel will be wearing their pretty princess crowns.

The Security Response team essentially does three primary tasks.
1. Prop Weapons Check
2. Counterfeit badge check
3. Situation Response

Cosplay Weapon prop policy
Cosplay Prop Rules
-It cannot fire any sort of projectile. (Nerf/Projectile guns are only allowed if they have been deactivated and cannot fire. This means removed internals, or plugged barrels, etc.)
-No Airsoft of any kind, regardless of functionality. It's just not allowed.
-It cannot be sharp or pointy enough to cut or pierce someone with moderate pressure. This includes all real swords, daggers and knives. It also includes ceramic blades, needles, syringes and anything that can pierce (for example, a Little Sister syringe made of wood would not be allowed)
-It must comply with local weapons laws
-No live ammunition (actual bullets)
-It must be inspected and tagged by Weapons Check before entering the convention floor

I would also caution wearing ammunition that looks lifelike. We've seen costumes that display a large amount of disabled ammunition and while we can tag it these items make the convention center staff very nervous. If you decide to sport such things expect to be stopped regularly by staff to be inspected even after you are tagged.

Prop Check Booth
We will have a prop check table on the 4th floor convention center behind info booth. If you go through the big glass doors at the top of the escalators (like on the way to the queue room) on the left will be our Table with signage. All weapons should be checked in with us and will be verified by security staff as valid. We will be tagging props primarily during Expo Hall hours. Also worth noting is that in the morning it's a rush to get in line so we don't expect you to stop by. We will have people working the line and tagging props while you wait.

Counterfeit Badge Check
If you are buying or selling badges we will have counterfeit check people deployed on the street under the skybridge. If you are buying from someone and want to be sure it's real feel free to bring them over. In recent years with the new counterfeit measures it's been hard to fake, but it can happen. To be safe use our services! Also if you have a badge you want to donate or give away you can leave them at Info Booth. Our person on the street cannot assist or help you in moving the badge. While intentions are always good it looks bad for new comers if enforcers are trading badges. Hard to understand context.

If some enterprising attendee would like to setup a Badge exchange to help thwart the scalpers we would not interfere :)

Another badge tip - This year we have single day badges for everyone. There are no all weekend passes which makes it less lucrative to take someones badge. There have been issues with badge theft in the past and we hope that this will curtail it. We HIGHLY recommend you only wear the badge for the day you are attending. It may be tempting to wear all four just to show how dedicated you are but that will make you a potential target for thieves. Wearing just the current day makes it much less worth the effort.

Situation Response
WSCC Emergency Numbers
If there are medical or police emergencies in the WSCC you must always call the center's emergency line NOT 911. We can't stress this enough. 911 doesn't know how to respond efficiently in this location, as it is very large, the WSCC security management team can assist in getting emergency aid to your location as quick as possible. If you need assistance for ANY medical or police emergency call 5127 from any house phone in the center, or use the red hotline phones located around. These are automatic direct dial into emergency management. If you need to call and don't have access to a house phone use 206-694-5127 from any cell phone.

You can also reach out to any Enforcer, Green Coat, or Police presence in your area for assistance. While we cannot help with medical emergencies directly we will absolutely contact the people who can and assist as possible while we wait for assistance to arrive.

So Questions? Thoughts? Look forward to seeing you all this PAX!

Question for next year. Does a bow fall under the "cannot fire any projectile"?
If so, how about a bow without the bowstring?
