Can I just lodge my complaint for the continued use of the generic police radio chatter audio file? Worse than wilhelm.

I didn't even know new Jack Reacher was in production. I'm in.

Plus I LOVE reading the comments hate about how Tom Cruise isn't 6'5 so he shouldn't be Jack Reacher and I'm all "yeah, but he's the goddamn Tom Cruise"

are YOU on the beer list?

It's a bummer they skipped 61 Hours. Seemed like that was the setup at the end of the first movie, it's one of the better books and the start of the 'go meet this lady on the phone' storyline in Never Go Back.

The guy who wrote those Reacher books said while Cruise doesn't have the height, he was in all other ways pretty perfect for it. Never read the books, so can't say myself.

Eh, may not have the height but Cruise still manages to sell the character, the trait of explaining how he is going to fuck you up right before doing so almost works better when he is not as imposing physically.

The first Jack Reacher had all the right ingredients except the story was a bit dull. So I'm excited for more cause it can always get better and, really, just watching Tom Cruise do his thing is great.

I mean, this scene is just great:

    Nobody said "whore".
She inferred "hooker", but I meant "slut".

Man, I loved Daria back when it was on TV, and I generally really enjoy Aubrey Plaza, but this was painful to watch. Which, I mean, it was a CollegeHumor thing, so that should have tipped me off that it was going to be awful, but nostalgia suckered me in.

Plaza wasn't as exciting as Daria as I thought she'd be, maybe Ariel Winter would fit the role instead. She's fantastic on Modern Family.

Yeah, Plaza's line reads were pretty flat instead of Daria's emotional monotone (or whatever you'd call it).

Hey, Statham makes dependable scrappy guy kung fu movies!

But I agree the CGI is weak (particularly the exploding gas can), but what really made me weary was seeing Jessica Alba in it. I mean this is Lionsgate, but can't they find some other attractive actress out there who can actually act? Why not use Statham's real life girlfriend Rosie MadMaxly?

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Yeah Alba being in this really just cements the low quality of it. I do like how we know there is a bikini scene with her because of course there is.

I am a sucker for Statham movies, always have been, because he's actually pretty dependable; they're not expounding on the meaning of life or doing groundbreaking things but he's got the charm and the action is usually sensible. And every now and then you actually get a great one (Transporter, Killer Elite, Expendables 1) far more than stinkers (Name of the King, Revolver).

I actually reckon he's got one of the better track records only a few current actors can top for me in terms of his filmography (and I've actually seen everything he's done outside of Cellular which is a little personal accomplishment of my own pat myself on the back if I do say so and do so there we go)

Name of the King doesn't count as a Statham film, it was a Uwe Boll film that Statham happened to be in.

Zombie Alec Guinness couldn't elevate a Uwe Boll film above Z-grade.

Yes, but does it feature Statham fucking his girlfriend in public to keep his heart beating?

I don't know that I've seen a major actor more bored out of his skull than Tom Hanks seems to be in all the Robert Langdon films.

Third. The DaVinci Code was first, then Angels & Demons in 2009.

I actually enjoyed the DaVinci Code book a bit, and consequently the film which stuck extremely close to the novel. But it committed a pretty serious sin for historical fiction by not being clear (in either a forward or afterward) where the novel deviates from fact. That tarnishes it rather severely. The goal is to entertain not to confuse or spread false ideas to slackwits.
