I've been having some fun running Intel missions and stuff solo. My gear is now good enough that I don't feel embarrassed matchmaking into Challenging missions anymore. Not so sure about matching into Incursions still though.

Interestingly, my best experiences with this game have been when I was just barely above the cut for a given activity. I've always told the groups before hand and each time it has become a "help that guy" kind of thing. I got 4 pieces of sentrys just by saying "hey, never done this before, running lone star right now, I'll focus on rezzing y'all and buffing the group".

Each time has resulted in friend requests and people dropping me stuff they don't need. People can be pretty cool if you give them the chance.

My first Challenging group that wasn't a huge dumpster fire failure was just like playing a normal mission where every enemy was stupidly full of health. Instead of an impossible battle against unstoppable wizard shotgunners. So that WAS fun. It helps that a low geared guy's Smart Cover and healing burst are basically just as good as the guy's with 20 to 30 better gear score.

The brief encounters when you get a group of awesome folks in a pug are really great.

I even had a moment in the DZ where there was two groups of us just rolling through AI encounters. We'd ended up sat on top of each other when taking down a named enemy and instead of the usual tense stand off we just started following each other around the DZ.

Ended up getting disconnected (yay BT internet!) so had to extract a tasty M1A rifle all on my lonesome. Had to run away from 2 extract points since I saw unknown players rocking up on my location. Also got dropped by a wandering band of cleaners, but managed to get back to my gear before anyone poached it. Clearing out my final extract point was no picnic due to the large number of high level AI enemies, but liberal use of medpacs saved the day.

This last bit of gameplay really clarifies the black and white nature of the DZ to me. Since my extract was successful in the end the whole time felt exhilarating with a great payoff at the end. However if I'd ended up with someone stealing my extract, then it would have felt like a waste of the hour or so.

Sadly I'm not sure there's a solution to this dichotomy. Perhaps only dropping some of your DZ items on death? Something to take away from the fact that if you die you lose eeeeverything.

Hopped on over the weekend to tool around and see what's up in the world. Still love the moment-to-moment gameplay, and the intel stuff they've added seems like a cool way to encourage people to get back out into the streets, see some new stuff, and gather phoenix credits.

I tried to run Clear Sky with a couple of pubbies and it was a disaster, so I bounced, disappointed. :(

I jumped online the other night for the first time in a while, and I was surprised how bad high gear level pubbies still were. Like if you're still playing that much surely you get good through sheer repetition.

I haven't played this since I got Overwatch.

I feel GUILTY. I had an absolute blast with this game, and I had developed and cultivated a solid group of players. I was in my 70's for DZ rank. But I sort of lost interest. I wish they at least had a couple different class-types... to encourage some replays...

Also the news of a Division movie, starring Jake G... sort of cheapens the experience for me?

Generally agree and I feel guilty too, which is why I keep booting it up, playing for five or ten minutes, and turning it off. Disagree that a movie would cheapen it, unless that movie actually hit theaters and was terrible.

I was running around the BoO this weekend and just thought, "Man, I had a lot of fun with this game, but the experience is basically done. Ubi crafted a good experience for X number of hours, and now I should just move on." It doesn't have MMO legs, but then again, not every game needs that. I platinum'd it and it may just be time to move on. (Annoyed that I bought the season pass, though.)

Yeah, adding this game to the pile of reasons (which I always ignore) to never buy the season pass.

    Whoops.

What is this I don't even.

That's how I feel. I treated it more like any other Ubisoft open world game. I did all the things, collected all the collectibles, and after that I feel like I had my fill. I could see the game still being fun to pop back into from time to time, but I'm happy enough with what I've played of it.

Luckily I anticipated this outcome and didn't buy the season pass!

I still like to casually follow the goings-on in the game. The underground stuff looks cool for folks still deep into Division.

The Underground stuff looks like the perfect remedy for folks that love the PvE in the DZ, but hate the PvP mechanics there.

Also the fact that the levels will be generated for each run should add a lot of replay value. I wonder how they're going to construct each level. Are we going to to be saying in two weeks after release "Ah yes, this is the 100m straight tunnel with 2 side rooms section. We know how to deal with this".

    It's a lot better imo

I mean the DZ is still the same luck of the draw experience it always was, especially solo, but it's also no longer the only way to progress your character.

That said I'm done playing until underground launches. I'm sitting at 2000 phoenix credits with nothing to buy and I've about maxed out what I can get from soloing the High Value Targets with the Lone Star drop rate being what it is.

    Base of Operations Extension
•The Terminal is a new shared social space inside the Base of Operations.
•The Terminal can be found in the back of the base, next to the Reward Claim Vendor.
•Visit High-Value Target contractors and all new Vendors.
•The Special Equipment Vendor has been split into two vendors within the Terminal, Items Vendor and Blueprint Vendor.
•Players can also Fast Travel directly to The Terminal.

    Weapon Recalibration
•You can now recalibrate one of your Weapon Talents at the recalibration bench.
•Recalibrating a weapon talent requires Weapon Kits and Phoenix Credits. Weapon Kits can be acquired through drops in the game or crafted.

    Game Changes

    Gameplay
•Added a new Dark Zone bracket for 231+ Gear Score.
•Player stash size has been increased to 70 total slots (including Base of Operation upgrades).
•Level 30 players will now only encounter level 30 or higher enemy NPCs in Free Roam.
•Rebalanced NPC’s weak points to be more consistent across the board. This impacts the amount of damage needed to trigger them and the amount of damage it does when triggered.

•Reduced the Phoenix Credit costs of 204 High-End and 240 Gear Set items and blueprints.

•You can no longer share an item that you have equipped.
•Adjustments have been made to NPC threat lists that caused players to stay in combat for large periods of time. You will now leave combat after reaching a certain distance away from the enemy or after a set amount of time.
•Players will now be disconnected from the game server if they are inactive for 15 minutes or longer.
•Players can now matchmake from inside no-respawn areas and can fast travel into activities while the group is in a no-respawn area.
•You can no longer kick a group member in a boss fight and up to one minute after it has been completed. This restriction does not apply to group members who are AFK or outside the mission area.
•All players must now be present in the final Circle in Clear Sky before you can interact with the laptop and fuses.
•NPCs located in the final Circle in Clear Sky will instantly respawn once killed until players enter the area.
•Players can no longer deploy Mobile Cover skill while they are performing a Cover-to-Cover move.
•Exotic Damage Resilience is now capped at 90%.

    Weapons

These changes only impact weapons acquired after Update 1.3 unless stated otherwise.

•Shotguns – Added a chance to stagger NPCs. This will not affect other players.
•Assault Rifles – Added an enemy armor damage bonus. This does not impact damage done to other players.

•Changed the weapon bonus on SMGs from a % crit hit chance to % crit hit damage.
•Increased the base damage of Shotguns.
•Decreased the damage done by the AUG and Vector. This impacts all new and existing ones.
•Increased the minimum accuracy cap on the M1A. When shooting consistently, the crosshair will grow to a much larger size than it previously did. This impacts all new and existing M1As.
•The damage done by Explosive bullets has been reduced.
•The status effect of Incendiary bullets has been reduced against other players.

    Items

    •Mask: 1 mod slot
    •Kneepad: 1 mod slot
    •Backpack: 1 mod slot
    •Gloves : 0 mod slots
    •Holster: 0 mod slots

•Holsters will now always have all three attributes.
•Sentry’s Call and Striker’s Battlegear gear sets have had their two-set and three-set bonus reduced, and we have added a new five-set bonus. The four-set bonuses have not been changed. •Sentry’s Call bonuses were: •2 Set: +30% Headshot Damage

So, it seems to have gotten more stable. I had some issues with trying to get the initial operation, as I was clicking A to advance through screens....and not X to advance through the screens and start the mission. I plowed the first mission on normal mode and got a cache, a POS 163 or so off the boss. The cache had a 204 G36 AR which was nice. I started another mission and after about 15 minutes or so, I died....and got kicked back to the TOC. Thing is, nothing had dropped during the mission because mobs don't really drop loot. So I 'wasted' 15 minutes, as much as you can waste time while playing a video game. Started another mission, got a ways in and had an enemy group spawn all around me...died again, back to TOC.

Feels bad. Shouldn't happen. Rather they incentivized me for not dying, than penalized me for dying.

edit: forget this, back to skyrim for now. Just wasted an hour on a mission and got two shotted by a shotgun rusher.
edit: "defend this dumbass jtf agent who runs around the center of a room surrounded by assholes"

I did find if you push into a room of guys, you can sometimes double back and they just despawn. So uh, yeah. Finished an operation where I had to kill a ginormous cleaner at the end. I backed off to a choke point that was largely rubble+fire that they wouldn't cross, instead they piled into a train car with a closed door. I shot them through the window in the door annnnnnd got a 187 pistol. Chest at the end was a 187 vest that I didn't get which was my fault, I open the door to end the mission and then saw the chest, opened it, loot popped annnnd boom, back to the TOC.

So far, solo wise it's a rather poor impression.

phew.. fog of war is tricky, I unlocked it and gave it a go on Normal, I can see how it would cause some serious issues if you are playing higher. Pulsing to keep an eye on mobs before you enter but when they are spawning in from around the map, you dont really know where they are coming from. `

Enjoying it so far though, died once in an hard mission, that kinda sucked.

I appreciate that you remembered me talking about potential new Division achievements some time ago, but I did already list the new achievements in a spoiler like six posts above yours.

I guess one of my friends will be happy about this, he is still playing The Division and he knows I'll be back for achievements and bring our 3rd friend along with me.

I merely invoked my forumer right to not read any of the prior posts before posting a response of my own. :P

@Brogey Just run to the mission, finish it and head back to your Base of Operations....and then you basically don't have to leave or use the map. They know about the map thing, they're working on a fix. The stuck in the emote thing is still there tho!

So I came to some final room with ~5 guys one being a boss. Game says, "Destroy the supplies in there inside of a minute, for reasons." Pop security link, run in and up the stairs, shoot the crates twice with a shotgun....run around the boss and hop over the edge, pop medikit and back outside. Proceed to shoot those assholes from outside the room for about 4 to 5 minutes and win, get a 214 Striker's pack and some garbo 187 SMG from the crate.

Oh, I see how it's gonna be, I just gotta play unfair to win. Well, I can do that.

Man it's the AI what are you doing trying to play fair? I abuse the AI's inability to figure out soft cover constantly lol

    I am armor-capped.

I will never bother with Challenging anything. Heroic can fuck right off.

    Was that challenging or heroic?

Also what's your current armor out of curiosity

    Challenging.

Whatever armor cap is, so 75% mitigation.

OK so Underground is basically nephalem rifts? I'm kind of into it, would be up for running some of the harder difficulties with other PC dudes.

Still never done any of the incursions either.

    WHA?

I still check this thread despite not playing this since like a month after release because I want to like The Division again but this is the first thing I've seen that might bring me back.

Time to research exactly what Underground is adding to the game and how much time I would need to put into this to catch up

Yeah, you select an operation which could be up to three phases and can add modifiers using intel you pick up from previous runs. These make the runs harder in various ways but get you more XP.

The XP is used for underground ranks which gate your ability to select harder ops. Has a PVE dark zone feel to it too.

It's like rifts, lite. You need to rank up to really open it up. It starts by being able to do basic 15 to 20 minute runs, but later you can add difficulty mods and extra phases to ramp it up to an hour - say, 15 to 20 minutes per phase, 3 phases max.
