You'd be surprised how often the max bet Grand jackpots get hit on a popular machine. Several machines at the casino I'm at hit at least bi-monthly.

Having played the GoT slot machine, I'm not surprised. It's confusing as hell to most people.

Also, much like in the show, the Qarth mini game is the most boring.

    Only because there isn't a Dorne mini-game*

*Joke only applicable to the show, I liked the Dorne plot-thread in the book

But oddly enough, the most profitable, since you have an active role. The Wall and The Battle are basically 'hit button and hope you win'.

Wild Cards got greenlit for a TV adaptation today. NBC Universal is doing it, same part of the company that did Mr. Robot, apparently.

NBC? They'll have to tone down the racy parts, I would have thought that show would need to be on a premium channel. It'd be perfect for Starz.

NBC Universal producing it does not mean it airs on NBC, necessarily.

Didn't realise there were slot machines closer to the UK fruit machines. No idea how they work here, but just seeing the concentration and strategy of friends who've been really into pub fruit machines certainly took the edge of most casino games I've encountered afterwards.

I've never got on with his other books, though honestly it's just Fevre Dream and Tuff Voyaging - don't know whether his writing style just fits ASoIaF better for some reason but takes you out the story when in a different setting. Or are those two books just a bit bad compared to his other stuff? Any recommendations?

I thought Fevre Dream was pretty good and it is definitely one of his more popular books. I have not read anything else, but would also be open to suggestions.

I really liked Sandkings, which is more of a shortish story than a novel. Did not realize how old it is either, it still holds up well

I'm pretty sure I've read that slot machines are regulated to not let skill factor in in a meaningful way.

I've tested it on video poker and verified that the payout is predetermined. Your choices are only an illusion. I assume the same is true for all slots and their "mini-games".

Their payout percentage will be whatever the regulated minimum is.

But alas. TV people still don't seem to get it.

Mr. Robot season 1 is on Amazon Prime. Been watching it for the past couple weeks working through the first season.

The hardest part about watching it for me is the episode descriptions, because they have "Hi, fellow kids" leetspeak like "wuz he pwned?" all over them and my eyes roll out of my head.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a big twist at the end of season 1 that my wife and I feel is super duper obvious.

I don't think the show is as good as the reputation it has online, but it's interesting enough.

  • Options
    DasUberEdwardDasUberEdward Registered User regular
I think the episode descriptions are pretty funny. They're just set up to look like an internet comment. Which hey i've been on the internet and that's how people comment on things. The show does a pretty good job of incorporating ARGs and things of that nature. The show has perhaps the most realistic depiction of hacking that i've ever seen in fictional media.

Oh and it's uncensored on Amazon Prime which is nice.

    regarding the super duper obvious.
If you're thinking what I think you're thinking you won't have to wait til the end of season 1.

We're on episode 7 now of 10. I figured the thing I think is coming would be at the end of the season, but all the better if it comes sooner so I can know if we're right, heh.

Np. It's always the last place I look too, because their interface is terrible and the selection usually isn't great. For me prime is much more about free shipping from amazon than the TV. I think doctor who, tumble leaf, and mr. robot season one are the only things I have in our amazon watchlist right now.

Yea for me it's the shipping and now the big video game discounts.

I think I've watched like 2 episodes of workaholics on it during a time when I couldn't find those eps elsewhere and that's all.

    Surprising no one

I mean they are giving us two short seasons so they can just hit all the main bullet points of the home stretch outline. I'm expecting it to be action-packed, plot-moving, character-killing insanity

It just hit trade from hard cover but because I'm lazy I didn't chase down the right Amazon link. Probably should do that.

Edit: Or not. Not sure why I saw it on a list of newer releases but I can't chase down a trade publication date so now I just don't know.

I try to find other things to do while waiting for the books. Tidy up around the house, take a brisk walk, or master a musical instrument and tour the world only to find that fame is fleeting and no amount of drugs and groupies will ever fill the emptiness I feel. That sort of frivolity.

Not too undermine the hyperbole of your post (which is very funny), but I bought A Dance with Dragons the moment it was out. Since then, I've literally gone around the world since that time.

from my understanding its george and co. commissioning the same guy who did the illustrations for dunk and egg re-release to scene up pivotal moments

kinda black and white charcoal/sketchbook kinda look
