A co worker just said she felt 'sooo old' at the age of sixteen. Took all my will not to strangle the poor girl.

Then I realized I was nearly twice her age, and started feeling depressed

Tell her that it's okay, in time she will realize that she wasn't feeling old, she was just feeling young and stupid.

    We mad.
We got this sculpture thing outside the apartment building, big, made out of steel, directly below our windows, and skateboarders found it about a month ago. It's super loud when they're messing around with it.
My partner was coming home from work last night and they were getting set up so she sat on the sculpture until they all piled into a van and left.
    Get off our lawn.

One of the few knock down, drag out fights I've ever had with friends was over tipping. They didn't want to tip the waiter at whatever rando resturant we were at because he tried to talk to one of them and ask them if they wanted something while they were on the phone but the waiter didn't realize. I ended up actually shouting, walked over to the waiter, tipped him myself, got in my car and left.

I actually don't think I've talked to the person in question since.

if restaurants paid their employees living wages and didn't make their customers pick up the slack with tips, none of these things would happen

tipping culture is toxic and is the thing that should be the target of your ire

while true, until that happens, you gotta tip waiters because they gotta eat.

I have worked in a place where a patron did that. The waitress was all smiles, and told the kitchen (I was a lowley bus boy, and thus couldn't really help) Their food was handled...indelicately. She got her tip though.

I am not going to justify it, I'll fully own up to the fact we were dicks right back.

Edit: To be more substantive, here is an interesting blog from a restaurant owner who went tipless, it's long but worth it: http://jayporter.com/dispatches/observations-from-a-tipless-restaurant-part-1-overview/

This is dumb but dumb things are the best things to get mad about about I guess. I'm mad about the same stuff in this comic:

Argh. I want to write angry letters to a perfectly nice website because of their snarky "oh, you spend money on frivolous things and give money to charity? You're an inhuman monster who cares nothing about poor black people suffering." It's such a dumb argument because it applies to everything. Why do they pay webhosting fees? Why don't they just not have a website and spend that money on charity? That way they'd be making the world a better place twice. argh, Argh.

Before I went through a two-year period of unemployment, I had scheduled monthly payments to two charities. One was Medicines Sans Frontiers, the other was the Starlight Childrens Foundation, an Aussie charity for giving sick kids pleasant experiences, kind of like Make-A-Wish in the US.

Of course, when I was made redundant and lost my income, I had to cancel them both. I felt pretty bad about the MSF payment, but the Starlight one? Not so much. They used to try to call me at least every fortnight and pressure me into upping my donation. It got to the point that I had their number listed in my phone as "those fuckers again". If I've already been giving you $50/month for the last 4 years, leave me the fuck alone.

Here the tips are basically assumed to be a part of the cost of dining out, because the system is broken.

This is a case where the mouseover text works as a form of /s tag:
I usually respond to someone else doing something good by figuring out a reason that they're not really as good as they seem. But I've been realizing lately that there's an easier way to handle these situations, and it involves zero internet arguments.

The comic is very definitely saying "Slagging someone's good deeds by telling them that they could have done something even better is a good way to lose friends and accomplish exactly the opposite of what you intended".

My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I know what the comic was saying. Just the second paragraph of his post made it seem like he was yelling at xkcd for making a point opposite of what it really was due to ambiguous phrasing.
