When I tried to watch the most recent episode of Legion, the FX Roku app errored out on the third commercial break and I couldn't make it past it. I need to try that again sometime.
Kyle McLaughlin or however you spell it has such an aging lesbian who came of age in the 80s vibe, I have no idea how else to describe it
also I have kinda tapped out for a while, having finally found out who killed Laura Palmer, it seems to all have gone a bit meh. though I did Google to see how Lucy and Andy make out.

Oh hey, there is an FX app. Thank Christ

Yeah the second half of S2 gets really slow and just kinda wanders for a while because they had to do the killer reveal earlier than they wanted.
I've known for a while because I was reading Wikipedia episode summaries after I finished each episode to make sure I didn't miss anything and one of the early episodes, whoever wrote the episode synopsis decided to add in some analysis
regarding themes of incest and sexual attraction to his daughter causing him guilt, as we see when he's revealed as the killer
and I was like oh, cool, ok. like not that I expected people in here to not spoil a 25+ year old show but I was intentionally only reading individual episode summaries for a reason. I just don't care enough about everyone at this point and honestly have struggled throughout all of season 2 to give a shit about anyone except Lucy and Andy
I switched to Death Note because I haven't seen any of it and Netflix is putting out that movie and it put it back on my radar. Hulu has a surprisingly large amount of the animes available, if they're dubbed I may hang out in that genre for background TV for a bit

So Legion's first season might be one of my favorite run of episodes in all of tv.
God damn.

I feel so conflicted by Aubrey Plaza.
she can do the cute thing and the sexy thing and the cold-shoulder bit and the intimidating as fuck bit and the non-caring goth bit and the friendly non-threatening bit and HOLY FUCK THAT WOMAN IS TERRIFYING I CAN NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!
I still can't believe something this bold and unique is on tv...or that it got renewed already.
Cetainly casts some doubt on all this "we live in the darkest timeline" nonsense. No. The darkest timeline definitely wouldn't have something as amazing as Legion. No way.

Of course it would. You can't appreciate torture without a breath of fresh air to taunt you.

Legion seems like the thing they let you watch before forcing you to watch another season of American Horror Story

Ok that's a lie and also cliche. Massive torture never stops being torturous and I don't know where that cliche came from.

I think it's just a series of assumptions based on the general adaptability of the human mind. Our brains do weird shit to cope sometimes, and getting used to things is kinda one of our specialties.
It's dumb but I can sort of see the logic behind it (twisted though it may be).
I kinda sorta liked the first 3-4 episodes despite finding the pacing a little slow, but by the end of the season I loved it like crazy. Not really sure if the show changed over the course of the season or if I just got a little more accustomed to its rhythms.
It was super-polarizing, though. Everyone I talked to about the show IRL was either 100% in or totally out on it, and that went for most of the critics I read as well.

If it sticks the landing it might be up there with The Prisoner for me. Which is just about my favorite show.

Legion up to episode 7 has been really fantastic so far
If the really nail the landing then I think it will be something quite special, for sure
Hugh Jackman is just going to bust through the wall at the last second all wild-eyed and yell "What year is it?!"
I mean, it's a pressing question I have about the show!

Like all good X-Men properties, it takes place in nineteen sixty-future. You know, the decade directly after the one that the Batman animated series takes place in.
I just finished Legion episode 3, and about the time thing...
Melanie says her husband inherited their place 'in the 40's' and follows that up with '30 years ago' they built all this stuff there.
So, at the very minimum, it can't be earlier than the 70's. Assuming she's not lying. I think we can at least assume that the four other characters in the room know what year it is (hopefully) and they didn't object to what she said.
I mean, with the way the show is, anything could be happening...but if there's any sort of 'reality' in the show, those are the only numbers/dates I've heard so far

That orchestral bit in last night's Legion was weird because I associate that music so strongly with Digimon

Yes, but
All the styles are from the sixties.
The tech is a mix of future tech and fifties tech.
The pharmacology is modern but the psychology/psychiatry is straight from the 60s-70s.
And Legion dresses like a modern asshole.

I think it's in the same time period as Batman the Animated Series.
Legion's aesthetic taking from various decades and sources and being set in a non-specified time feels like a deliberate choice to evoke a dream-like, hallucinogenic quality to the show
The question is always "is this real? What is real?" and that the real seems unreal means that it blends with the seeming reality of the unreal to make it this constant theme
And plus it looks cool and distinctive and that's always good, for something to try and do it's own aesthetic

I mean, I don't disagree. It's clearly supposed to make you go "Wait...what the fuck?" in a small way, where things like the literal hallucinations and sudden camera shifts make you go "WAIT WAIT, WHAT THE FUCK?!" the show wants you to constantly ask questions and always be on edge.
And yeah, it gives it its own aesthetic a la Batman:TAS

I wasn't being particularly literal. Just a vague era based more on a tonal feeling than an actual point in history.

I'm just saying, the series finale better end with them going "Yes, this was a good year for us in this, NINETEEN SIXTY FIVE." *explosions, flags raised*

Probably... It's probably better but I bet it's not as funny.
