Is anyone still playing this online? I recently got a gold account and would like to get some of the multiplayer achievements.
Totally be down for this...dammit...i'm not going to be home till Sunday night to play. I'm going to have withdrawal :(

I'm free all weekend, so I'm down if you down, or something like that.

I feel the same. But mostly because the first Legends had a kind of quirky charm that the second one missed. Also, the first Legends was a lot kinder to people unfamiliar with comics.

Which also happens to be MUA's biggest problem. I just don't know these people and there's no way to find out who they are so why should I care?

And it doesn't have a single Nextwave member. But I won't hold that against the game.
I felt the same way about XML1. I don't know jack about these characters or anything about superhero comics but I still had fun. Except for Wolverine who's the biggest immature loser I've ever seen in a video game so far.

But I actually have more fun with MUA. Nothing is explained at all but I still like all the extras. If I really wanted to know everything I could just hit up wikipedia.

Whoa, not digging the Wolverine hate. Despite the fact that I'm a weirdo who likes Banshee (of all people) as his favorite X-Man, Wolverine is the textbook definition of "has been fucked over for his entire life." Not disputing your opinion, it's yours to have... just sayin' that I think his attitude is warranted.

As for XML1, I agree with Anubis in that I really liked the charm of the 616/Ultimate/reboot approach to storytelling. People in the know can squirm with glee over the inside references and cameo appearances, while even casual players should enjoy the encapsulated plot and straightforward progression. (Also, some of the FMV is downright badass, like the one with the X-Men and Magneto fighting the Sentinels on the Mansion's front lawn).

With XML2 and especially MUA, the plot was less encapsulated and more a checklist for appeasing hardcore fans: characters to include, cameos to drop in, places to visit. The real problem with that is that the story has to be tailored to fit the checklist instead of vice versa, which resulted in a downright bastardization of the Age of Apocalypse storyline. As for MUA, the checklist had to cover every major Marvel comic character arc (the X-Men segment! the Spider-Man segment! the Iron-Man segment! The Ghost Rider segment!) that the story was a complete waste and a flimsy excuse to get the team from the Mandarin's Palace to Asgard or whatever.

Also, fuck that stupid Loki battle.

An attitude may be warranted but not the one he has in the game. He acts like a spoiled 12 year old that's seen too many action movies and is pretending to be a "badass".

I love MUA but I really do miss the guy that yells, "Combo!" and "Super Combo!"

And yes, the fact that you can't change the Xtreme Power button is fucking lame.

But, if you are after mere parlor tricks, you will be sorely disappointed. For if I reach behind your ear, it will not be a nickel I pull out, but your very soul!

Also, are there any special techniques other than Colossus throwing Wolverine?

Huh wuh buh? How do you do that?

IIRC, it works just like grabbing and throwing barrels, just with a Canadian instead.

Oh and the melee combos suck compared to XML2.

Plus I only dislike Wolverine because of how over exposed he is, and the whole "Superman of Marvel" thing he's had going lately.

I thought the MUA story was well put together, considering they had to cobble together every Marvel faction in existence. I really enjoyed the part at the end that showed future consequences for the side missions you did/didn't due and the few choices you got to make throughout the game.

Move Col towards Wol and press X. As far as I know, it only works between those two, which is why I was asking if there were any other neat team combinations.

I believe there are combos with a number of heroes, but I haven't started playing MUA yet. I know there were combos in the XML games, typically by using specific powers in a timely manner. I believe they resulted in extra XP if they were pulled off correctly.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any of that. I don't own either XML game, so I'm not speaking from firsthand knowledge.

They still have power combos but they aren't anything unique or special like the Fast Ball Special.
Essentially if you hit two or more powers on the same enemy at the same time it'll throw up some fancy name and give you bonus EXP. Shield Throw + Billy Club = Billy Shield, or something silly like that.

They don't give you bonus XP In MUA, just bonus damage. Which is sad.

But yeah, they're pretty tacked on, ridiculously easy to pull off and ignorable.

Okay, that's what I was wondering. A Magneto-throws-Colossus move would have been nice to have, though. Or, perhaps, Magneto-throws-Colossus-who-is-also-throwing-Wolverine?

Personally, as a guy who reads a lot of comics, I thought they had a lot of "introduction" material for non-readers in there. Almost everyone you talked to would explain who they were, what they were about, etc, even through they really ought to know each other, and the trivia games were pretty basic stuff that I knew 90-95% of without even needing to talk to them.

I can see how the subtleties of the relationships between characters could be lost, but really, if they'd been much more "we're going to assume you've never read a comic before" it would've just gotten irritating to people who have read stuff, or at least me.

i remember there being a gold version of this that had extra characters available to play, the only one i can remember being venom, but i have never actually seen it on the shelves. are all versions of this the gold version?

i've wanted to buy it ever since my friend and i played through most of it on coop but never finished, but i figured if i was going to buy it i might as well get the best version.

The characters are available on the Marketplace also. $6 for individual Hero and Villian packs, or $10 for both. Gamestop has the Gold version for $25 or so; you might as well get that.

Well, I know that! What I'm saying is that I haven't found any other cooperative moves. Even something as simple as punching Wolverine in the kidneys to increase his rage would be fun. Plus, it would give me an excuse to punch Wolverine in the kidneys.

    Edit:
Huh...I hadn't realized it had been a week already. I regret nothing!
