I am trying to get my site off the ground, and I don't know if I am doing the meta tag correctly.
I have
<meta name="keywords" content="xxxxx" />
<meta name="description" content="xxxxx" />
in the head section, after the title tag. To my understanding, this should set it up so that when my site shows up on, say, google, it should have the site name followed by the contents of the description meta tag, right? Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something?

They should be updated next time a spider goes through your site.
I don't know the official time that takes, but in my experience that's three to four weeks.
