Yeah I was stuck in the land of dial-up and over-the-air TV this holiday weekend, so I didn't get a chance to watch it.
My buds were all going batshit crazy and jumping on peoples cars and shit though. I got like 45 text messages saying "LIDDELL GOT HIS ASS BEAT" within about 2 minutes.

I get the impression that nobody stays at the top of UFC for very long.
I get the impression that nobody stays at the top of UFC for very long.
In full contact MMA, anybody with the proper training can get in a lucky one shot or get their face knocked off by one. The best fights are when both guys are so evenly matched they trade moves for 3 rounds and basically pass out from exhaustion.

That's why it's so rad. Because, just like real martial arts, your style may be superior to someone's but inferior to someone else's. Makes for a lot of diverse strategy, fight-to-fight.

Unless you are a scary russian cyborg with ice in his veins.

I really wish Fedor would fight more.
XD Everyone loves Fedor, and I have yet to see any of his fights. He's like a ghost, in a thick fog, calling to me, and vanishing when I get close.
tMeiz: no headbutting, no grabbing clothes, no pulling hair. back in the day it was everything-goes except bangin' on the bean-bag, but there are actual rules now.

The UFC's rules are really tight now because in a lot of other MMA circuits that started around the same time, you would get a lot of people who would suffer career-ending injuries or die.
Especially at the amateur or unsanctioned levels. It's easy to say "Anything goes but dirty shit like hittin' a dude in the sack or gouging his eye" but man honestly when you got a guy's head pinned against the ground by his shoulders and he can't lift his head up or really move and you just start pounding his face with the bottom of your fist it's pretty much like that wine bottle scene in Pan's Labyrinth. Nobody wants to see that, and if you actually do something like that to a person that thought never really leaves you and it's not like they need the fighters psychologically all fucked up in addition to physical injuries.
I mean, if you want something to be a real sport it's gotta have rules. Otherwise it's just gladiatorial bloodsport, and I don't think that really should be a part of any healthy society.

But UFC does have rules. No kicking on the ground other then kicks to the legs, if you're standing and your opponent is down obviously, no gouging or biting or scratching, no hitting in the top or back of the head, no low-blows (low blows defined here as a shot to the boys), no headbutting, no kneeing a kneeling opponent are just a few that jump to mind.

no kneeing a kneeling opponent and no hitting in the top or back of the head were the exact kind of rules i am talking about
they added them
because they saw what other fight circuits like K1 were like without rules like that
people get hurt really badly or die
UFC nowadays also stops fights a lot quicker when it's clear a dude has had enough, to the point that in almost every bout that ends by KO you see the ref dive in between.

What are some of the differences in today's rule set and the ones that were there before?
I mean, now you can't hit someone in the back of the head if he exposes it like an idiot, where's the fun in that?
Edit: Like those pussy grappling bitches that dive and expose the exact parts of their body you're not supposed to hit.
UFC was actually banned for a while in the US because of their lack of rules. They had to add more regulations to protect the fighters and separate the competition by weight class in order to come back.
I knew Rampage was going to waste Liddell. Rampage has skill but he also has so much damn raw power he is like a fighting a freight train. I've seen some of his fights, he's like the damn hulk.
Could Liddell have beat Rampage? Yes. But I think he was far too cocky, maybe to cool and reserved? They call him the iceman.
You need lots of skill to beat Rampage, not like fucking bruce lee skill, but a lot of skill about what you're going to do. You got to bring your A game because raw power usually trumps everything but the most focused of fighters. But there is a point when skill will trash all the raw power in the world, but you got to respect it even still and just be sure you are trained to deal with fighting a bear.

On Joe Rogan.
Joe knows a lot about what he talks about, I respect him for that, he is knowledgeable and he brings up many valid points. But he's always a raging egotistical maniac and will not stop harassing till you absolutely agree with him. You can't even sorta agree, I've seen interviews. It's all Joe's view or nothing no halfway. That's why he's an asshole. A smart asshole, but still.

I hate submission it really is boring. Joe is all "No it's amazing"
No it isn't
The speed of a punch or a kick the power and finesse and skill and location all extracted within a second or two will never be beat by some guy wrenching another guy's arm or leg into a weird position and putting pressure on it.
No borfase, his nickname is Rampage. Just like Chuck Liddell's nickname is Iceman
i was simply confused because everyone was calling him rampage, while everyone still calls chuck liddell chuck liddell, instead of his nickname The Iceman
You are pretty on-the-ball with your Rampage analysis, Seph. Though I think he's lost a little bit since his brutal fights with Wanderlei Silva. He just doesn't seem the same after those fights.
Also, I heard Silva is going into the ring with Liddell in the future. That fight should be amazing, though we'll see how Silva does when he can't use his patented "stomp someone on the ground with ax kicks till they pass out" move.

And what are these "real" martial arts that MMA is attempting to be just like? I was not aware the MMA was fake.

Also, apparently boxers talk shit about MMA...
Pretty funny ESPN debate between Joe Rogan and a boxing trainer.
I kinda can't stand when Rogan talks, but the way he handles this guy flipping out and frothing at the mouth is classic.

Man that Din Thomas is a total attention whore. He knew what he was getting into when he signed up, the guy on the radio said so.
