Warning: PS2 Holiday 2004 Demo Disc Owners!

Sony has finally owned up to a recently publicized report that the Viewtiful Joe 2 demo on the Holiday 2004 Demo Disc for the Playstation 2 will delete all of the save files on any PS2 memory cards in the system when the demo is played.

A buddy of mine didn't get the info early enough. Lost all his data. He took it with relatively good humor, though... he was lamenting how he'd now have to watch Xenosaga again. I had to laugh.

It's crazy that it does this, though. Crazy.

Got mine in the mail today. There isn't a Viewtiful Joe 2 Demo on it. Guess I lucked out, or they're trying to lull me into a false sense of security and then suprise me with memory card obliteration.

I was so pissed off I forgot I'd played that demo disk. It deleted three years of Playstationing. All three GTA's gone, ESPN Football and Hockey seasons gone, SSX3 gone, Tenchu gone, Mark of the Kri gone, Amplitude and Frequency gone. I am going to bomb these assholes building off the fuck earth.

Erasing memory cards is important enough for a sticky, as well as the fact that people'll just keep making these topics when they find out themselves.

It's like the Spiderman 2 console versus PC thing, but on a much bigger scale.

Never again will a demo disc find its way into my PS2 without me first removing my memory cards. That said, usually I just play the demo discs on the store's PS2, which doesn't have a memory card anyway. But still.

This really is utter shit, and heads should be rolling. I demand pictures.

This is so shitty, i thought it was something I did, I even swore to my friend who was with me at the time that i would no longer mix beer and playstation, as something bad always seems to happen.


I feel like I need compensation, all my games would get their share of playtime, steadily unlocking all the features over the years was fun. It fucking ruined the fun on very close to all of my games. I am going to be trading in about 1/3 of my library now, i dont care how much money i get, they are like books ripped apart and tossed in a puddle, worthless.
We all should get a free copy Veiwtiful Joe 2 (wishful thinking I know) for trying out that stupid demo unknowingly ( it was the only thing on the disk I found interesting enough to play).

I didnt even ask to get this disk, I dont know how I got on their stupid mailing list in the first place, fucking terrorists put anthrax on my games.

Anyways, good to know the cause of my greif. I had a hunch the demo disc was the problem but why would a demo disc need to access my mem card anyways?? Curses.

Sony really should offer some form of compensation to everyone they sent those demo discs out to.

Everyone on that mailing list should be sent a free copy of some PS2 Greatest Hits game, or a gift certificate, or something.

Losing every save on ever memory card in the system would just be... Disgaea alone... god. I don't even want to think about it for the PS2.

I can think of more good EA games recently than good Capcom games. And at least EA has never released anything this... malicious. And there is nearly no chance that something like this was an accident.
