You Funniest Movie Evar?!

This is kind of inspire by the "Greatest Album Ever" thread, and how that's managed to be fairly constructive and is turning out to be more of a suggestion thread than anything else. I absolutely love good comedies, so let's D&D about our favorite movies. I know we're probably not going to arrive at a conclusion, so that's why I put that modifier in the title.

So, what's your favorite comedy? I think my favorite might have to be Blazing Saddles:
Blazing_saddles_movie_poster.jpg

The moment that defines it for me?

Jim, to the KKK soldiers: "Oh boys!"
Bart: "Hey, where the white women at?"

All I can say is thank Christ Mel Brooks has no qualms about being racial to be funny, because it's fucking hilarious. Those are youe questions, get to it!

I second Clerks-I will laugh for the entire movie, straight through. Every damn scene I find funny.

Also Holy Grail, I mean come on, how can you not love that.

Strangelove is a great movie but not really a comedy unless you're extremely cynical :P

    Anchorman is hilarious.

I think Little Miss Sunshine is one of the best crafted comedies ever, and contains two of the best bits I've ever seen.

I'll also throw in Holy Grail, because it still holds up today.

However, if you want a comedy that was well ahead of it's time (by about ten years) I think Dumb and Dumber gets funnier with each year that passes.

Anchorman was ruined for me somewhat by a roommate who watched and quoted it constantly. I pretty much don't think any of it is funny anymore.

I was waiting for somebody to suggest Spinal Tap. All kinds of win.

And I have to agree with Podly, 'cept I don't really enjoy Clerks that much. Kevin Smith's movies always come across as pretentious, so convinced that he's elevated above everybody else in his opinion of what is "smart" funny and what isn't.

Dumb and Dumber? Oh hell no.

If ever there was a comedy that was ahead of its time, I'd point to Brain Candy, the unfortunately ill-received movie about psychiatric medication that is still fucking hilarious.

Yeah, read DFW E Unibus Plurum essay, then watch Clerks.

You almost feel sorry for Kevin Smith after it.

Is Kentucky Fried Movie as good as Airplane! or Police Squad? I just can't watch ZAZ movies after the Scary Movie series completely ruined that kind of comedy for me.

You should watch "An Evening With Kevin Smith" sometime. He is pretty well aware that what he does is low-brow, (which is what the whole point of Chasing Amy was) but he is probably one of the best storytellers I've ever seen (in the context of the DVD)

I've seen it. He's a terrible story teller. He comes across like your friend running up to you and saying, "Dude, it was sooooo funny!" You want a good story teller, you listen to Prarie Home Companion. Whether or not he feigns awareness about the content of his movies, they amount to little more than bad acting with way too much boring dialogue. Even his big movies are acted terribly, not just Clerks.

You know how you'll invariably get that guy in a discussion about music that talks about rockabilly and blues from the 30's and 40's to seem outdatedly cool? Not necessarily accusing you of that, it's just funny.
