If you sit back and look at the situation, you'll see that there are only two logical possible conclusions:
A) This is just a joke, and things will be back to normal in a few days.
This is real, and there will be no more chat threads.
Now, if option A were to happen, there'd be a few people who'd get really mad and complain in the chat thread for a while, but soon things will go back to normal. If anything, we'll be an even tighter-knit group for having "stuck together" through "thick and thin", i.e. the no more chat threads thing.
If option B were to occur, things would get a little more interesting. I think I'm safe in assuming that some people would leave. The reason that they would go with this option is because they don't care. They don't care if we're happy, sad, hungry, dead, whatever. If anything, people leaving will make their jobs easier. It'll be less people to deal with, less problems to resolve, and they'll have more time to do all the other important things that mods do outside of their job. It's like being President of the United States, but a little different. Instead of doing your best to make everybody happy and create an enjoyable environment for all, while at the same time attempting to create financial gains for you and your friends, you just piss everybody off and make even more financial gains for you and your friends. In this case, it would be easier to just piss people off, make sure everybody else is quiet, and go have a few beers and play some darts instead of making sure our time here is well spent.
In any case, the outcome will be disasterous.
So in essence...

Joanna, what you're doing is being elitist, which won't help us get our Chat Threads back.
We want them back, and if you don't, that's just dandy.

I too call bullshit.
As one of the elderly members and regulars of G&T, I will go on the record to say that the chat thread is the best thing that happened to that section. It cut back on derailed threads tremendously. It gave people a place to talk about a quick detail about a game like, "Man I like the music from Megaman" or some shit instead of wasting a thread on it, then getting flamed for making said thread. I for one would love to hear what logical reason there was for this. The word elticism has come up a few times and I want to know how that is the case. Back when we discussed the possibilities of a chat thread (when I was a mod) a few mods objected that it would divide the forum, but if anyone is going to choose one section over another it is at their discretion. Period. In fact, prior TO the G&T chat thread a lot of people already were "regulars" of each section. There was also talk of new users being intimidated, and that is complete bullshit, because I have yet to see someone sign up for the forum and get flamed out in the chat thread. Only someone like Gabe would think like that. Yeah, that's right, I said it.
That being said, if this is all a prank, then hey, kudos to y'all for doing it. I won't rule this out at all, because of the whole chat thread 200 thing.
