Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
While tooling around the 360 dashboard after playing the Overlord demo, I went into the profile section and noticed something I'd never paid any attention to before. There appear to be dashboard / profile related achievements that can be unlocked, or at least something that looks a lot like the unlockable achievement icons. Here's a shot of what I mean (captured in all its awful quality via my crappy cell phone):
Now, I've not bothered to play any games online yet, so I figure it might be something really basic, like an "added first friend... wheee!" style achievement or something equally inane that anyone using the online functionality of the 360 would find terribly obvious, but whatever the hell those unlockables are, they're driving me nuts. So, for anyone that knows, wtf are those four icons masquerading around as unlockable achievements in the profile section of the dash?
thre are no acheivements, (at least not known ones) those are just placeholders since I guess they didn't feel like removing the symbols just for the dashboard.
Cool, thanks. I think I like the placeholder explanation better than me just being a tool and not being able to do something really obvious in the dashboard anyway
That would be a pretty cool idea, though, to give away some achievement points (probably small though, like 5 points) to trying out various features in the dashboard. For example, 5 points for trying out the Live Arcade area, 5 points for hooking up to your computer, 5 points for finding the Marketplace blade for the first time, etc. Basically, it's an incentive to "get to know your system".
But the points should be small, so that people who aren't connected online, or don't have a computer to connect to, etc. don't feel gipped for not getting those "freebie" points.

Maybe something along the lines of a "Beta Tester" achievement, for those who played a beta(Halo 3, Phantasy Star)?

That would be cool. It doesn't have to have points associated with it either, as the system allows for 0 point achievements, which are only good for bragging rights (but is still impressive nonetheless to certain people).
