If it sells well enough, I see it getting a sequel. Hard to say how it is selling though, since all the sold-out stores probably ordered 8 copies or less.

I read an interview with Suda51 where he said there might be a sequel.

    Here it is:

"We had tremendous support from [publisher] Marvelous when we first presented the idea. It is in part because of the talent of the artists we worked with who created very charismatic designs. I really would like Travis to exist beyond No More Heroes for the Wii. When I first imagined this world, I thought it could be expanded, and when you finish the game you’ll hopefully feel that too. So, if we have the chance, perhaps this might become Grasshopper’s first expanding IP."

Back to the Future was never meant to have a sequel so maybe No More Heroes isn't supposed to have a sequel.
Sequels were not initially planned. Zemeckis later stated that had sequels been envisioned, the first film would not have ended with Jennifer traveling in the De Lorean with Marty and Doc, which created logistical problems in plotting the other films. In addition, Zemeckis and Gale state in the DVD commentary that the "To Be Continued..." caption was not originally in the film (the filmmakers chose to omit the caption from the 2002 DVD release to remain true to the original theatrical version).

The thing about the sequel talk is how suitably No More Heroes actually ended. Whereas games like Halo 2 ended with deliberate cliffhangers that demanded sequel support, No More Heroes actually ends with a much stronger note of finality. There are no loose ends remaining-- not because they were tied up, but because they were burned away.

Finally! I had time to go about beating the game on bitter tonight!
Sadly there isn't anything special if you beat Henry on bitter difficulty. I does let you save your clear data again and gives the option to start on another round of Bitter. I was kind of hoping for a higher difficulty yet. I suppose that does give me the option of going through to get some more cards, but I really wish they would have built in some more incentive to play through the game on bitter mode.

After beating it and now replaying on bitter I do need to ask just one question: Why isn't there a streamlined story/fight mode that unlocks? All the bosses, in order, with all the cutscenes relating to them, but nothing inbetween. Like a boss fight mode with all the videos spliced in.

A Boss Rush would have been nice, but I would have made the cutscenes purchasable from the video store in New Game +.

I'd buy a NMH Final Mix with the extra boss fights, boss rush, and cutscenes again in a heartbeat. Also Victorian Steampunk Mode and Al Bhed subtitles.

That's my favorite fight combat-wise. The great thing about NMH is that I have so many favorites: Dr. Peace is my favorite character you fight, Destroyman is my favorite killing scene, Holly is my favorite emotional payoff, and Harvey is my favorite character interaction. Not to downplay the awesomeness of the others, of course.

I just beat the game, and ill tell you, by the end of the game, I started going "Wow this game actually looks amazing".

I was disapointed with the ending, and then I went to the real ending. Awesome.
So, why did the husband/brother fuck up that one fight? kind of his barging in to tell his wife "I know what youve been doing and I dont approve"? It does explain why she just disapears after that though.

I finally beat it, so now I have the luxury of reading all these spoilers. Yay! So, not that the plot's supposed to make sense or anything, but...
Why didn't Travis recognize Jeane? I thought they'd had a relationship (at least, the manual implies it). Hell, he named his cat after her, in a "the one that got away" sort of thing. Or... did Travis say something like "What the fuck, Jeane!?" when she first appears? I was too busy laughing that #1 got killed by a crotch-punch from behind.

Regarding the whole scam/not a scam thing:
The only person who says it's a scam is "Sylvia's mother." She could be lying, and the UAA is a real organization. Mom's just doing that thing parents do when they say their dear little angel couldn't possibly be the one who started that fight, dear me no...

Just beat this a couple of hours ago. I've only got one thing to say, and its probably been said about 54 times before in this thread and its predecessors in some manner, but warrants a 55th iteration after the ending that I just witnessed.
HOW THE FUCK IS THIS NOT A MILLION SELLER!?

Gushing aside, I was actually kind of curious about the events between the fight with Jeane and the ending itself. Is there something revealed in the fake ending concerning that or does that just cut out the portion with Henry?

Oh its a scam all right, but the best kind of scam. You see, you have all these people trying to be the best, and paying them money to move up ranks. How do they get this money? Assassination! The best assassins in the world would obviously be those that got the job done, escaped the law, and got jobs over their fellow assassins. So even if it started as a scam (and it probably did) it is now as close to the real deal as possible.

Plus, complete and utter lack of marketing Ubisoft's end. This kind of game doesn't click with the JPN market, for whatever reason. But in the West, it could have done potentially far, far better with the right marketing.

That, and the game doesn't need people going around, saying, "Killer7 sucked, so I'm not buying this. Dur hur."

The sad thing is that Z&W actually had decent advertising the Europe -- and guess where the vast majority of its sales are coming from? Europe! Isn't that a craaazy coincidence? :P

It just goes to show.. that if publishers would actually market good games, then those good games, such as NMH, would really sell.

That said, I'm at least pleased to hear that what few places got copies, a good chunk of them have sold out. Basically, little publishing and little ordering and selling those few copies is better than little publishing, little ordering, and not selling.

I'm still crossing my fingers that we get a number for NMH from NPD.

I can't believe how psyched I am for this game. Usually I can handle PAL delays when there's nothing especially interesting to pick up (and instead sample some region-free goodness on my DS/PSP) but, Goddamn, I'm jumping up and down like an excitable ten-year-old waiting to play NMH. Even if it is a bowdlerised version.

And there's still 3 weeks to go.

Its funny, that was the first thing I searched for on Youtube after I beat the game. I missed the name of the manga when I heard it the first time. Pretty fucked up story though, suited the scene nicely.

One thing that would have made this game perfect would have been a cartoon skit during the intros indicating that the game wasn't intended for younger audiences.

Was that Emir Parkriener? It sounded like the same voice actor, at any rate.

I have to admit, the game was starting to get a little tiresome towards rank 4 or 3 or so, but the last two totally made up for it. It was especially awesome

I think that Grasshopper knew that action games tend to get old once you head into the home stretch, when you're character is either a living god or when you're up against enemies so difficult that it becomes a chore. That's why each of the last four Ranking matches had a mechanic (or two) that really set it apart from the others, which kept the action fresh.
#4 has the Shmup segment, which honestly felt more like a Touhou style bullet hell game with all the action going on in the screen.

#3 has the side scrolling segments, and a really unique boss segment.

    #2 has the motorcycle massacre.

And #1 also has a different bike sequence.

It really goes to show how deep of an understanding Grasshopper has of the medium they're satirizing.
