Help me get Tribes 2 to work...

I've been trying to boot up Tribes 2 on my PC here, which is running Windows XP Pro. Whenever I try to play the game, it boots up to the logo screen for the Torque engine fine. At that point, the screen fragments into lines.
Let's say a normal screen is like this:
My screen ends up like this

---
And from that point I'm stuck. I have it running in compatibility mode for Win98.
