Stand-up Comedy

If you don't love stand-up comedy, BEGONE! For us that do love some good stand-up, post up your favourites.

BITCH, I LIVE IN A FUCKING TRASH CAN! - Dave Chappelle

I got blood in my perm - Kat williaims

On April 15, 2007, Chappelle shattered the Laugh Factory's endurance record by performing on comedy club's stage for six hours and seven minutes....

Why was this not taped?

So, Who is your favorite comedians, past and present? Female comedians? Any of ya'll tried stand-up? What black comedian has the best sterotypical 'white' voice? Is Dane Cook really that funny? Why did Chappelle go to Africa? Why did Mencia have that one good stand-up and then proceed to make one of the lamest shows ever? Why did Dat Phan(close enough) win "Last Comic Standing" with basically three jokes all about the same thing?

"An update on the comedian health sweepstakes. I currently lead Richard Pryor in heart attacks 2 to 1. But Richard still leads me 1 to nothing in burning yourself up. See, it happened like this. First Richard had a heart attack. Then I had a heart attack. Then Richard burned himself up. And I said, 'Fuck that. I'm having another heart attack!" -(C)- George Carlin

My top 2 are easily Chappelle and Pryor.

I just watched the Comedians of Comedy Documentary.
Those guys (Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford and Zach Galifianakis) are easily my favorite group of comedians.

I'll second those guys. Maria Bramford is fucking glorious.

My favorites are Kevin James' Sweat the Small Stuff, George Lopez's big one that shows up on Comedy Central every now and then, and, of course, Eddie Murphy's Raw. Chris Rock's drop-the-mic set ranks up there, but I can't watch it too many times without getting tired ofit.

As far as Carlos Mencia, I have no idea what the fuck happened. He had an absolutely great stand up act, but absolutely fails at transferring it to television.

Seriously, Mitch Hedberg was fantastic. He died a while ago, and he's probably my favorite comic.

Don't judge by the quotes in the link above- if you don't hear it done with his delivery, it'll probably just be a bunch of shit that doesn't make sense.

    Ok, here's a YouTube clip:

One of the best bits I've ever heard.

Christopher Titus is one of my all-time favorite comedians. The way he mixes the serious with the comedy, the poignant with the funny, is just incredible.

I'm not a big fan of standup, but I was dragged to see Brian Regan and really enjoyed it.

Also Lewis Black is funny, I don't even know what he talks about, I just like his expressions and yelling.

Cannot recommend Bill Bailey enough. Insane musical commedian, in Black Books with Dylan Moran.

Also, Jimmy Carr - sardonic, insulting and very funny.

    Finally, Ricky Gervais.

Russell Howard is an up and coming comedian from Bristol, he has one or two clips on youtube but sadly there is no way to see a full length performance outside of hunting him down. I've seen him live two or three times now and each and every time he has been different and fantastic.
    Gorak wrote: »

He's funny, but his stand up isn't really stand up, it was more of a live performance of some kind of tv show type set up. For some reason it really bugs me.

For a Canadian perspective, Russell Peters is downright hilarious.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNmBfVfVpMA

He brings race into alot of it, but I think in the true Canadian way of self-deprecation, he can get away with it as he makes fun of his own race (East Indian) as much as other's.

Jeff Dunham is one of my favourites. He's a ventriloquist/stand-up comedian. Pretty sure Myspace has a few of the scenes from his DVD "Arguing With Myself" uploaded on it. Here's one:

Also I did stand up once for a school talent show, i got 2nd place, but man i had three pages of a note book filled just for two minutes of material, i could never do an hour special like these guys.

A lot of comics make me smile, very few actually make me laugh, and Eddie Murphy's Delirious is one of those. I got some iiiiiiiice creaaaam.

There is one "comic" that I really strongly dislike though - she's horrible. Not sure what her name is, but all her jokes revolve around a) yelling at her audience and b) telling everyone she loves black dudes. Caught her on Comedy Central and I watched that train wreck for about 5 minutes.

Only listed one good one there, chief. Chelsea Handler really needs to find herself a grave.

Aside from that, you've got Phyllis Diller still doing her thing, Maria Bramford, 70's Whoopi, Paula Poundstone before she touched the little girls, Roseanne Barr, Sabrina Matthews, and a handful of others.

I thought John Leguizamo's HBO specials were genius. Not quite stand-up, I know.

Eddie Izzard is pretty good, George Carlin, Bill Maher and Lewis Black need to battle for most cynical funny comedian ever (Carlin would win). where the fuck is Dennis Miller? Damn it I miss Sam Kinison. Kinison's phone bit was some of the greatest shit ever thought of. Eddie Murphy needs to do one last great stand up concert, Chris Rock and Eddie Griffith could open for him.

Oh, and Pryor is still God.
