So I don't know if my classes are out of order or I was suppose to learn how this stuff works before I enrolled, but I know 2 things about 3DSM. Jack and Shit.

Is there a "for Dummies" or "Complete Idiot's guide" book for this software or anything on the net that will explain things for someone with zero knowledge? For a rough estimate of my abilities, I can create simple objects, scale them and move/rotate them around. That's about it.

F1 key and the manuals that came with your software will have tutorials.

Yes. Go through all the tutorials that came with your software.

I had to go through many of them twice.

Classes will teach you about 8x slower than if you teach yourself

Ive done both, so I know.

if you dont have tutorials cause you got warez off the net, then go to the autodesk site and download them.

Once youre done with those basic tutorials, find more advanced tutorials as 3dtotal.com

That's another thing. For some reason the tutorials don't work. I'm signing in to a remote server for class but the tutorials don't come up.

3D Studio is tough, 3D modeling on the whole requires a great deal of know-how. Luckily, 3DS Max comes with a lot of good tutorials, even some in video format I hear.

I cannot recommend a book to you, most of the books I have found are specialized. Also, since 3DSMax 9 came out recently, there probably aren't any good books for it yet.

Lynda.com has great tutorials for 3DSMax. And Max is a great way to start, it's probably the easiest 3d modeling program to learn.

Also, Mario Russo's book is a killer step-by-step modeling guide that for numerous common objects. You'll learn a ton from reading it, and it's one of the least expensive modeling books around.
