Seeing how I live in the wettest city in Britain I don't think buying a motorcycle would be a very sensible choice. Plus I like listening to music whilst travelling, sitting down comfortably, being surrounded by a shell of metal rather than nothing at all. All that.
I'd still fucking love one, though.
It's a lot of fun, but I really only take it for joy rides where I live. But yeah, it's pretty scary when you first get out there.
I can imagine. If I had one as my main mode of transport I don't think I could put up with wearing the leathers for more than about five minutes, let alone constantly changing in/out of them when I arrive at whatever my destination may be.
Oh I never wear leathers. I usually just go out in my t shirt and jeans. But then again, I only ride it when it's warm and dry. It's far from being my main mode of transportation.
How easy would it be to transfer all the stuff I have now onto a new harddrive? Is there any half decent way to do it or would I have to copy everything onto a jumpdrive then put it on the new one?
You could get one of those docks to turn the new drive into an external one, then once all the stuff is copied on shift the new one in as your main drive. I have no idea if this would actually work, though.
I was at work last night, stocking shelves, and for some reason the floor is just covered with little bugs. Ladybugs and beetles and stuff.
They're just crawling around on the floor.
A bunch of them had been flipped over on their backs some how, and were scrambling with all their might to get back on their feet.
I grabbed a bit of cardboard and flipped a few of the little guys over with it, and shooed them off to the side of the aisle. In the next aisle I saw the same thing.
Really? So there's nothing inherently wrong with me killing you if it suits me at the moment?
no
I sometimes think I'm the only person who survived a college philosophy class with my mind intact.
why would there be
Because every individual has a fundamental right to his own life.
about as much as a snail has a right to its life
Holy shit...how can you even think that and want to continue living?
what makes us so much better than snails
1. We're having this conversation
2. We're having this conversation using machines which are the product of intelligence and rational thought, reduced to concrete objects to serve our purposes
3. We survive through the use of reason, rather than muddling through on basic instinct.
4. Salt doesn't kill us (pussies)

I think that's something a person decided too
It's a principle that was discovered through thousands of years of philosophy, but nobody "decided" it. The recognition of the right to life is a basic requirement of human survival.
I get what zoolander is saying. It might be hard to accept that humans are just as important as everything else, but its a peaceful feeling once you do accept it. You're life isn't inherently special. Maybe you'll do something to make it special, well good then, do it.
human life has no more inherent value than any other life
we're top dog now because we evolved to be pretty smart
one day something else might overtake
then they'll be top dog

#4 is a good point but overall: ......so?
hint: the universe will miss a dead snail about as much as it will miss everyone who died in the holocaust

I don't care what the universe will or will not miss.

No, they don't. There is no such thing as a fundamental right. Society grants people the right to their own life, not some cosmic wizard or whatever. It's not built in. You just don't understand that.

nobody "discovered" it
a lot of people decided it and agreed upon it because they thought it was nice and also conducive to enjoying life

what if life was, like, death?
Oh I never wear leathers. I usually just go out in my t shirt and jeans. But then again, I only ride it when it's warm and dry. It's far from being my main mode of transportation.
Please elaborate.
not rocket science really

Then I stopped caring.

Some humans don't even have houses.
Woooooooooo
Do snails design and build their houses?
By the logic I'm seeing here, a human being is of no more value than a rock.
If this is how the majority of the world thinks, we're doomed.
Well, yeah.
How many animals do we slaughter a year so we can eat and such?

That just makes humans smarter, not better.
Unless you're saying that smart people have more of a right to live than stupid people.

what with the t-rexes in f-14s
look what happened to them
nobody "discovered" it
a lot of people decided it and agreed upon it because they thought it was nice and also conducive to enjoying life
philosophy survives because science hasnt caught up yet
but once it does
bye bye
same with psychology
but any connection to "our" previous life is an illusion
im not a philosophy student, i took 101 freshman year like 4 years ago.
I don't know why. I just do.
It helps rationalize why I kill and eat them for no real justifiable reason.
i think just because i like arguing
same.
