Trailer
here.
I don't think we've had a thread yet on this incredible movie. I saw a preview for it in Dublin when I was visiting in March. It looked interesting, but I remember saying, "Ah, hell. It'll probably never play in America, so there goes that."
Then, a month or so ago, I heard it was playing in select theaters. So I googled it, invited some of my friends, and drove 45 minutes to the theater.
I was blown away.
The movie was one of the most touching and extraordinary movies I've ever seen.
So, yeah. Anyone else see it? Your thoughts? I'd love to hear other people's reactions to this movie.
Edit: Yeah, as Wiseguy pointed out, maybe I wasn't so clear. The movie's name is "Once".

Hopefully the DVD release will be out soon, or I could download it off of iTunes or something.
Genius idea: iTunes starts carrying indie flicks.
I've heard a good bit about this movie, though, and I want to see it somehow.
But, jesus christ, yes, go see this fucking film. Once is such an intimate experience, that it ceases to feel like a movie. Even if you don't like the music in the film, that doesn't matter. The cinematography, the characters, everything about this film avoids any cliche you know and gives you a refreshing experience.
Sorry I wasn't clear enough! Edited the OP appropriately.
I think the music's fantastic, but you're right, it's only one of the reasons why this is such an incredible movie.

It's about a musician who meets a girl on the streets of an Irish city. I really don't know what else to say that doesn't give something away that I think is important. It's shot in a handy-cam style: very personal, very low-key. It features music prominently, the songwriting and performing thereof. It's raw, and fresh, and really doesn't have any of the normal love story cliches.
edit: Also, I've fallen in love with Marketa Irglova.
Oh man....
It features music, so I guess in that way it's a musical. But it's not like any other "musical" I've ever seen. People don't break out into choreographed song and dance, or anything.
I thought for sure someone did, but then I realized I probably was imagining things. It's still out in theaters where I am. I can only hope it's out near other people too. But if not, there's always the DVD.
Try really hard. Unless it's a shitty theater it will really add to it, IMO.
That's what I was scared of... The only really good theater around here is about, oh 40min away. Oh well.
Might have to look in the "independent" as i only searched online
Ugh.
I have decided to vehemently and preemptively hate this movie for that reason.
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
Sounds like a valid reason
I know it's silly. But I just can't stand the ad.
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
No.
Unless by "indie" you mean "good." In that case, yeah, all of its appeal comes from it being good.
Best movie I've seen in a while. It's like The Bends made movie.
It makes me sadder than you will know that you might pass on this movie because of the stupid ad campaign.
Please. See it. Or the bunny-thing gets it!
Thanks for contributing to the thread in a constructive manner.
Asshole.
EDIT: Oh and welcome to the Forums.
It was a good movie.
O_o
I don't think it's playing anywhere nearby, so Paris J'e taime will have to do in the meanwhile.
(Any thoughts on that?)
I'm glad you liked it!
Get a sig and avvy so we can remember you.
