What is Wurm Online?
Wurm Online is a mmo that focuses on building and survival rather than grinding up levels. Think of it as a cross between ATITD and Ultima Online. The system is skill based which means that you get better at the things you do as you do them. The terrain is deformable and can be dug or mined into creating holes that go down to rock or tunnels through the rock. When you cut down a tree it is gone from the world. Wurm Online is about making your home and trying to survive in a fantasy world, it is a fantasy simulator. For an idea of the multitude of items,skills, and creatures check out their wiki. There is pvp but not on the home server.
How much does it cost?
Wurm Online can be played for an unlimited amount of time for FREE with a few limitations. Skills and characteristics cannot go over 20 which reduces the quality of items you can produce. This also limits certain advanced actions that aren't necessary to play. If you wish to remove these limitations it costs 5 euros (around five dollars) per month. A basic account can permadie and have their character deleted if their body_strength gets too low from dying.
How do I start playing?
First go to www.wurmonline.com if you already have java installed just click on the LAUNCH button in the upper left and it'll start downloading itself. Its around 100 mb. If you don't have java there is a link to it on their page. Make sure you register an account while its downloading or you won't be able to play. We are on the home server. Once its done downloading you can set the resolution by clicking on the options button on the login screen. After that login and you're ready to play.
Is there a PA village, who's in it, and how do I join?
UPDATE: We found a new site and have moved there. Arcadia has been founded! Here is Becoming's guide on how to get there. Also here is a map of the world in case you get lost, but it doesn't help much. Since the team idea worked out so well we are continuing to organize people into groups. Make sure you're working with us and joining a team or you won't get food.[/URL]

A PA village has been started but has not officially been founded yet. We need your help to get it done because we need all the labor we can get. We will accept any number of applicants even if you don't want to pay its fine. We want all of you!
If you want to join the first thing you do when you log in is /tell one of the people on that list and tell them you want to join. Do not move from the starting town or you will get lost and probably die. Getting to our spot is kind of complicated and its best if one of us leads you there. Once you get to the site we'll teach you how to play.
Summary
Wurm Online is a free fantasy sim game that lets you feel like you're really accomplishing something. Its not the prettiest game in the world but it has deep gameplay. The world really is quite immersive even with the primitive graphics.

System Requirements:
* Java Runtime, version 1.4.2_06 or better
* A graphics card likenVidia GeForce 2,ATI Radeon or comparable,
with recent drivers and at least 32 MB Video RAM (128 MB recommended)
* At least 512 MB of system memory (1024 MB recommended)
SiS Savage 3D, VIA UniChrome, and most Intel chipsets do not support a version of OpenGL high enough to run Wurm Online. Some ATI Rage chipsets might be able to run the game somehow, but you will probably get a horrible performance. Even a driver update won't help here.
If you want to run Wurm Online on a laptop, you most likely have to use drivers supplied by the manufacturer of your laptop (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) instead of those by the manufacturer of your graphics chip.

yes, and good lord are they a pain in the ass. nubs really can't kill anything 'cept large rats alone- a pair or three people can take on wolves. Spiders, bears, and the like roam the lands and thirst for blood. As we set up a stable smithing operation, however, we'll be able to produce weaponry and armor to allow you to fight freely.

it's pretty unoptimized, but there's a thread on their forums on which settings can be turned down to vastly increase performance

Game is chugging along at 10 fps or so. Nice water effect, but everything else is pretty bland. Still, it sounds like it'll be great once I figure out what I'm doing.
edit: What's the day/night cycle time? It's annoying to have such limited visilibity in the dark. Edit 2: 1-1.5 hours. Their wiki's not bad at all.
