The real figure it usually how many are "missing" after 2 days. So, however many are missing tomorrow + already dead bodies is probably the death toll.
I was kind of thinking more like they'd counted multiple parts, then the number began to drop as they pieced the parts together into single people.
So my Squadron got called into action for this bridge collapsing stuff. Just like we were called in for the Katrina stuff. Man I was busy earlier today getting things ready because of this.
Seattle local news did this as well. Listing random numbers of how many bridges are of similar design and reporting there state of repair. Then saying some stupidly high number "failed" or were listed as in ill repair. Then put some lady on for two seconds to explain that it could be listed that way because a single bolt was not secured... Then back to "400 hundred bridges state wide are in need of repairs". I turned it off. The lengths they go through stretching a story for 2 weeks worth of news gets old fast.
Or the bridge was not painted properly. Or had pot holes.
But let us never let facts get in the way of our irrational fears.
