All-in-One Messenger

I need a program that can interface with multiple instant messaging services at once, preferably with full support for each one (like, files transfers and such). I have looked around a bit, and have discovered Trillian and MirandaIM, but am unsure which one is better, or if there are any programs better than these two.

I need this to be for windows (I use adium on the mac side of things)

I use the following to work with the new program:
Google Talk (which, if someone can confirm, is based off of Jabber?....)
IRC (need to get one quakenet)
MSN/Live Messenger
AIM.

Help me out H/A?

    I'd suggest Pidgin.

It's the evolution of Gaim, and is a fairly competent open source messenger.

I'm using Miranda, altough only for ICQ and IRC. It's nice and easy on the system resources but seems to have a hard time communicating with certain versions of ICQ. Either that, or the people on the other end are just too stupid to set up their firewall or whatever.
Also: No file transfer between Miranda and ICQ. I haven't been able to set it up properly, sadly.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.

I use Miranda and it handles file transfers just fine with AIM.

I use Pidgin when I boot into Windows, but that is rare. I used to use Trillian a while back. But Pidgin is cool.

I second this, however sometimes I have trouble getting file transfers to work right.

I use Trillian Pro, which works great with every IM service I've used. I do recommend getting the Pro version if you're considering Trillian, as there's a lot more you can do with it - including chat history, plugins, etc. (Plus, I think it's required for Google Talk, which is based off of Jabber, so you're correct there).

"Damn you and your Daily Doubles, you brigand!"

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

I use Trillian, but the IRC support is pretty awful if you're a channel op. Works fine, though, if you're just there to chat.

Ok, for the sound of it, if i dont want to pay 25 for Trillian Pro, Ill probably use MirandaIM or Pigeon.

I like Pidgin even though it can't do fonts very well.

Not sure if it can do IRC though..

It really is a shame adium doesn't work in Windows. It's so beautiful.

But I would say your second best bet is Trillian.

basically there is no perfect messenger. However the one that I have had the most success with is Pidgin (as I stated earlier)

Go check it out. It can do all the things you need to do

Miranda requires a fuck ton of work, but it's worth it to me

I think I saw a screenshot somewhere of Miranda integrated directly into the desktop of a computer running Windows XP? Is it worth the work to have something that looks that cool?
