Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
3/4 of the way through The Place of Dead Roads on my way to the flacid The Western Lands sitting alongside the Art of Tekken and I think Wolfe was Right.
This man was a genious.
I've got a few DVDs ( Commissioner of Sewers, one I loaned out to someone whom I forgot exactly who that person was, dammit, and a PAL version of his cut up films) that feature him reading and his voice resonates through every sentence that I read.
I've got the 1st cut up trilogy, naked lunch, junk y, his last trilogy...I feel that the man has influenced modern entertainment (well, entertainment worth of note....I don't think I'll be checking out Doom, The Movie! anytime soon) to such an extent as it (film, the printed word) being derivative upon his style.
Quentin, for instance. Do you really think there would have been a Pulp Fiction without the novel Naked Lunch? Tool...I would be suprised if Maynard isn't a Burroughs officionado.
My point? None.
I love the man, and what he did. I'm sure it was nice to have the writer's equivalent of a trust fund to travel and purchase all manner of illicit drugs but...I'll forgive him that.
For what he did with it.
Good lord.
Kerouac was a hack, and Ginsberg a self-important verbose fool with not root in reality.
Burroughs was a god.
