Yeah, I hadn't noticed before that the official forums have a server status page. Apparently it's due to be down until about 10:30 AM Pacific.

Played the demo and loved it. Totally buying it.

Here's my situation, and I could use all of your opinions:

I'm getting surgery this coming Wednesday, then 24th. I'll be off of work until at least the 29th, possibly the 30th (yeah...the 30th...the 29th is my bday, not coming back to work on that day :) ).

Should I just go ahead and preorder from BB or somewhere and get a beta key? How does the process work? I was thinking of just heading by the store on the way home from church and grabbing a preorder box.

Is the beta only online? More than one server? (Forgive me if some of this info is in the OP, typing this from my phone, so it's a pain in the ass to read the OP with all those pictures).

So I just decided that I won't be purchasing this game.

First, my roommate found a nice gun a couple days ago while we were grouping. When he uses that gun, it causes one or both of us to randomly crash to desktop. If he doesn't use the gun, we never crash. Second, he tried to trade me a shield that was a big upgrade for my guardian. The item would not go into the trade box even though other items would. And no, there is no such thing as no-trade items in the game unless they just aren't labeled, which would be stupid. The final straw was logging in after the long maintenance period and not being able to group. We each tried inviting, relogging, restarting the client, etc etc... Nothing. Wheeeee!

I really want this game to be fixed up so it can be the big success for which I was hoping. Sadly though, this won't even be able to fill the time until Warhammer - at least not for me.

Edit: This is just the icing on the cake. I have had a ton of other random, little problems and annoyances up until now.

Beta is only online. As far as I can tell, there's just one server so far (there might be another for Europe).

    Hope your surgery goes well.

Servers were just up for a while, but now there's down again for extended maintenence. According to the official forums, should be up around 5 pm Eastern.

Anyway, downloading the Demo now. I hope the hacking and slashing is as fun as D2.

So far I'm really enjoying the game, though it obviously needs some polishing in spots. I know some people have expressed a distaste for melee in this game, but so far I'm enjoying the hell out of my guardian. The shield bashing in this game just feels very very right. Probably because of the fairly consistent stun effect it has, not to mention the appropriately metallic clank the shield bash makes when you connect your shield with a face.

It's also worth noting that guardians are sickeningly potent. If you can imagine a CoH tank with alot of healing, holds and PBAoE offense, then you pretty much have a guardian. It's quite possibly one of the few classes that does better when it's completely hip deep in the dead.

It is a beta... you aren't playing the final product, you're playing their test version of it, and helping them find all the bugs so they can fix them. If everyone didn't buy a game because it had a buggy beta, WoW wouldn't have a fraction of the amount of people playing that it does.

That wears thinner and thinner as release date approaches. It also doesn't help that they introduce more bugs than they fix with each patch. Don't get me wrong; I like the game and hope it turns out great. I just think it will have pretty severe technical problems (both client- and server-side) at release, so I'm going to wait a couple of months to buy it.

If you play a game and then are able to spend pages debating with someone on the actions of a faction within that game you probably just played a pretty sweet game.

Please note: the beta client is 2-4 weeks behind the real deal, so they may have fixed a ton of stuff already, but they are slowly updating the beta players clients to the actual code they have.

Right, so much bitching and whining. It's ok for people to have negative opinions. Really.

On the reporting front, I do actually visit the bug forums and make sure that issues I find have already been brought to light. Although I do like to make sure that I observe a problem multiple times under differing circumstances before I report it.

This is where I'm at right now. I like the game and I really, really want it to be great. However, it is very disconcerting that, even after the game has gone gold, they can introduce bugs that interfere with basic gameplay.

Man, what? You really need to take a step back.

I've said repeatedly that I like the game, that it's fun (when it isn't randomly crashing for no apparent reason). It just simply won't be ready for release in two weeks, no matter how many times they trot out the line that the beta is a 2-4 week old build.

You're right. You have said it. But coming in the thread and announcing that you're not buying the game for reasons: blah blah blah, only brings down the thread, then it turns into 14 pages of complaints about the game.

I just don't want to make people think that this is going to be another Vanguard. I'm not hating you, I promise, as I know all your complaints are completely with merit. I just don't want to bring down the potential buyers (even though the SP demo probably already did that).

I think we'll all be pretty surprised at the amount of bugs that have been ironed out for retail... We could theorize about they're spending more time on fixing current code bugs so beta code bugs aren't getting updated, the bugs are there because of them testing the constraints of their server/code, etc... but I really just think it'd be best to wait and see, and by that I mean wait for some review sites to give us their take on it.

In the demo however the only bug i've found is with those annoyng jumper guys getting stuck in walls and stuff.

Believe me folks, the retail (patch 0 included) version will have a lot of the big problems fixed. Every beta I've ever been in made massive strides in the last week, mostly due to player code being updated to the latest build. Even Vanguard was 10x better on the first day of release than the last week of its beta, which is a hard concept to swallow, I know.

In a nutshell, yes. They've said they are adding raids and stuff (similar to WoW) to the subscribers. Also, while in a group there are more monsters, they are harder, and better loot drops. So it's generally a great idea to group up in the game.

I think they look quite a bit better. It is just effects though. It is not like direct x 10 lets them have higher poly models or anything. It does a really nice, imo, blur effect on everything that gives the game a unique style.

Piccadilly Circus in the game reminded me a little of the real Piccadilly Circus. I can't remember much else of London, though, so I can't really say.

I think they took the streets and intersections and stuff, but everything is so destroyed and wrecked that you won't really recognize the HGL version as the real thing. Not unless you live(d) in London, anyway.

Basically like a quest that involves clearing out a certain dungeon which requires a large group of people. Some raids are based on killing a single extremely powerful monster, which involves a lot of strategy, timing, and coordination among the group. So it's really about working all the classes together to their fullest potential to get through.

On this note, are there any healer or support classes?
