I feel like mumble does voice detection better. But Vent had better quality.

But I think part of the problem is that at least a few people just have their audio setup done a bit wrong...lots of clipping. Not compression artifacts, but actual clipping. I think mumble reads at different audio levels than Vent did, or...something. I know I had to turn my mic WAY down. You really have to make sure your voice is not going up into the red on the wizard.

Unless I sound like crap to everybody else. In which case...

I would like to throw my hat into the "Thanks for the Mumble, but I really prefer Vent" now that I've tried both. Mumble has some nifty features but not enough to sway me I think. Too many weird things like comments and the ping being hidden and the console window.

Because of the thread title still being weird and Mumbly I'd like to clarify that the vent server has been magically resurrected; same old IP works just fine.

I know I haven't been online in a few years, but I ended up connecting to Vent again today. Are many of the people in the OP around nowadays, like Captain K or Mai-Kero?

Mai-Kero floats around in some of the game channels, I think, but Captain K hasn't been around for a while. Even on the forum. He stops by once in a while but mostly in SE++.

The mumble server was only paid for for three months. The only ones that used it were us battlefield players and we got a new smaller mumble channel now.

Chalk me up as another donor, god knows I use the thing enough. As for Mumble vs. Ventrilo - I guess I lean ventrilo purely out of habit but anything that lets Sonelan verbally abuse me is fit for purpose.

Out of curiosity, what provider actually hosted the ventrilo server? I only ever had the IP.

If there's any tips/tricks/special server settings that are handy that people know of, let me know. I'm sorta winging it with this ATM.

Also, if you need a special channel for a specific game, let me know as well.
