Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
So, there's threads for all the other gaming avenues, all the consoles, but none for PC?
Since PC gaming is the only kind of gaming I'm into, here's the SE++ chat thread for PC gaming, wherein you can mention all the tiny little things about your games that you love, that are interesting to mention, but which you can't be bothered putting in the effort to make a gigantic OP in G&T just to make that one little observation.
Having just gotten a new computer, I'm discovering a lot of games that most of you probably found, enjoyed, and discarded many an age ago, including Doom 3, F.E.A.R., Stalker, and DX:IW (i know, i feel dirty too).
I'll start off with something i noticed about Doom 3.
Has anyone noticed how Doom 3 can be two completely different games, simply by the presence or absence of headphones/decent surround sound speakers?
When I play Doom 3 with my headphones on, with the volume cranked up, every tiny little zombie that appears scares the ever-living SHIT out of me! When I take the headphones off and play without sound, it becomes a pretty mindless shooter, where I am transformed into a minor deity.
So much of the atmosphere in that game is created by sound.
It is the only PC Game I desperately need because I fear I am falling in love with my XBox and it feels so good, but I built my current rig in 2003 and boy do I ever need an upgrade (and monies for such an upgrade).
I no longer care as much as I used to for Guild Wars, but I still respect that it is a super game and I don't regret wasting my life on it.
Oh wait yeah I need Orange Box for PC because I'll be damned if I play TF2 on the XBox where I refuse to get on Live.
Tossrocktoo weird to livetoo rare to dieRegistered Userregular
Play Warcraft 3! It's very non-intensive on the graphics, and also very fun. An under appreciated classic, in my opinion. It even works on Linux through WINE!
I almost gave up on this heap and bought a new pc, and I probably would have spent more money than I should on it, but it started working eventually, after a lot of bullshit. it probably needs a cpu upgrade and definitely needs more RAM since one stick died, but I'm so happy with its performance for the moment.
part of what I did to test out what was wrong was switch to vista temporarily, and god, what a painful OS. instantly cut my TF2 framerate by a ton and was a general hassle to learn/use. I'm back on XP starting tonight, though. I never thought I'd feel so happy with XP Pro.

I lost my copy of Warcraft III... I think my sister stole it. I should really get into playing it online, I haven't played an online RTS since Starcraft.
(Well and Age of Mythology a little bit, but only a little bit.)
i tried to play starcraft a little while back, but starcraft is terrible for widescreen
there's probably a hack to get true widescreen for it
a lot of games have one, and starcraft is a really popular game
well, it was more of a matter of the HUD being still all along the bottom
when on a regular screen, it makes your playing field a bit shorter...but it's almost like playing on a widescreen playing frield
when on a wide screen, it feels like you have lost 1/3 of your screen and you are playing with a viewing area equivalent to 1280x400...which is just painful
Mount & Blade is the most fun I've had with PC Gaming recently. Seems like what oblivion should have been ('sides the graphics and all)
could you tell me about this game? the site doesn't seem to have much of a hype-free "Here are the features of our game" bulletpoint list, so it's hard to distinguish the bullshit marketing from what the game actually does.
Dawn of war, how I love you, but how I also don't have money for you, and also how I don't know if necrons are still totally imbalanced. Also my friends all suck at you. Microless doodies.
edit: this was directed at Javen but Viv feel free to challenge me
Spoiler:
To dota
Spoiler:
Seriously, I'm pretty good
More like I'm pretty damn good at dota. But the new versions shit me. I prefer the slightly older version. Siege is where it started to go down hill in my opinion.

That's about as much as I got into PC gaming.
I loved Hugo games.
XBOX LIVE - VAULT BOY 42
A whole lot.
but it lags every time i look into a portal
or something on the screen is moving
what i am saying is unless the game is 5+ years old, i will have a lot of trouble playing it

Man I never played it online and I can barely remember how the game goes.
Oh and Shanks, you are being a little fag today. Knock it off. It is making me not want to be with you.
EDIT: I really hope Viv responds about when she used to play D2. I almost have Asian Bingo.
