[Game On] SW:SE Dawn of Defiance - Group 2

PART I: PRELUDE TO DEFIANCE

Seemingly motionless among a sea of starships and satellites above the twinkling world of Brentaal, Sel Zonn Station grows larger in your view every second. A central pylon forms the bulk of the station's mass, and three landing platforms leading to docking bays extend from the central section, equidistant from one another and jutting out into space. The dorsal side of the station features a disc-shaped secondary structure, on top of which blinking lights indicate the presence of a landing platform reserved for wealthy patrons.

The Promenade is filled with the bustle of revelry and commerce. Spilling out of the gambling halls are the sounds of victory and the moans of defeat, while the music of local bands issues from the cantinas. Only a handful of citizens mill about in the main areas of the Promanade, a few gazing out the massive windows at the planet Brentaal hovering below. Businesspeople hawk their wares to the passerby, and a few Imperial stormtroopers make their way down the main avenue of the Promenade on their usual patrol at a leisurely pace.
    Places of interest:

    Gundark's Cantina
The Credit Chip - a local casino
Delgas Medical Supplies - corporate-owned medical practice and pharmaceutical supplier
Mechanical Allies - a droid repair and sales shop

Dennow wanders down the promenade, examining the wares of the merchants, and keeping a watchful eye on the Stormtroopers. He asks small questions, in the hope of learning more about the planet, and the space station.

With a cursory glance, Dr. Bennow spots several of the others departing the shuttle milling about the Promenade as though not sure where to go next. Six of them appear to be together, though two of them, a human and a Twi'lek, break off from the group. Three of the others, two humans and what appears to be their combat droid, listen to the rantings of a Gungan who is talking and gesturing excitedly. The Gungan then points at Dr. Bennow, and the group of four start to approach.

As they get closer, the Ithorian recognizes the Gungan as Dossa Beebo, a bushman who had claimed to find possible funding for the Doctor's research on a bacta substitute.

Beebo approaches the hammer-heady (Ithorian, he corrects himself internally. As innocent as it was, the Gunganese-Basic pidgin contained a surprising number of inadvertant slurs, a fact he had learned the hard way from a group of Trandoshans one late, drunken night) at a steady pace, his companions in tow. He extends his hand to the doctor.

"Hidoe, Doc. Moole smilin to seein you. Daysa Darrari--Darrin Ash, an Ko Arin," he says, gesturing to his companions and stumbling over Darrin's name. Damn tricky for the Gungan tongue. "Daysa gooden peoples."

Ko looks around, keeping a suspicious eye floating around the promenade, looking for anyone that might be looking for trouble. Especially those Stormtroopers. He nods to Dr. Bennow and Dossa, and, noting that none of his other, wordier, eloquent companions have taken the lead, Ko speaks in his usual, brisk style of Basic.

"Dr. Dennow, we understand you're looking for some bugs? How can we help you?"

Dennow looks over the figures appraisingly, returns Dossa's handshake, and speaks to them in turn. His voice is melodic and calming.

"Dossa, is it? We had spoken earlier about financing my research, any assistance would be appreciated in that regard. The peculiars of the research regard using a certain hormone produced by a gland of the Kendril, the "bug" you referred to, as a healing reagent. Should my research come to fruition, it would be quite the boon to medical practitioners across the galaxy. I have learned a few things about the station, and planet, that may be of use to us in our endeavor.

Oh, and I should warn you that while the Kendril is somewhat passive, it is quite large and would likely not care for us capturing it and extracting some of it's... juices. Furthermore, I would wish to incapacitate the creature, and then release it back into the wild. If these terms are acceptable, we may be able to come to some sort of arrangment.

Oh and you may call me Dennow, or Doctor Beyon. Either is fine with me."

Vii'let scanned the directory with pursed lips. She didn't crave the material, so going out shopping was always more of a social exercise than a practical one. Her skin bristled with the cool recycled station air. A new cloak to replace her old one might be prudent, she thought. They could stop and maybe find one after going with Krema to check out the toys.

"Sure thing," she smiled. "Let's go!"

With that, Vee skipped into action, grabbing Krema by the hand and dragging him towards Mechanical Allies.
Vii'let is attempting to avoid the Stormtrooper's notice by acting like the two of them are typical kids without any cares but running around the station, laughing and giggling.

A woman with short black hair and the greasy uniform of a mechanic comes stumbling onto the promenade, clutching her midsection as though injured. She struggles to make her way across the floor in your direction, though clearly she is having difficulty walking.

"Please, help me," she calls out to you. "There are credits in it for you, just help me!"

Mere seconds later, four stormtroopers burst into the area from the east area of the Promenade. They raise their blasters, aiming them at the woman, and shout through their helmet speakers, "Step away from that woman! She is under arrest in the name of the Emperor!"

    That's initiative, gentlemen.

    Map:
    Promenade-a.jpg

The woman on the yellow token is the wounded woman. The human with the white helmet is Ko Arin, and the human with the green helmet is Darrin Ash. The two tokens to the left are strange-looking humans that some of you have noticed already.

The woman ran up to Vii'let and Krema as they were about to cross the way to Mechanical Allies. Everyone else was talking to Doc as he exited the cantina.

As blasters are drawn, 1N-N5 turns to the action, glancing around to take in the entirety of the situation. The blaster carbines on either of his shoulders lift away on their swivels, sweeping back and forth over the myriad combatants-to-be.

His free hands continue to sit patiently and calmly at his sides; he awaits orders (or something that justifies opening fire.)

Dossa draws his carbine quietly and says nothing: he is no fan of the boysenwhitee, and even if he were, the Stormtrooper Corps is a xenophobic organization, and the Gungan people not their favorite in the galaxy. Secretly, he hopes they'll try something.

Krema Metyr, anxious to avoid a fight, tries to reason with the Imperial stormtroopers, ready to press the attack should the need for defense arise. His hopes are dashed, however, when one of the unknown strangers pulls out a hold-out blaster and shoots at the injured woman! Had it been a clean shot, the woman would clearly be dead now, but the Jedi's presence blocks the aim of the would-be assassin, and the shot sails harmlessly into a bulkhead, creating a shower of sparks.
Stranger 1: Draw pistol (move), Shoot injured woman (standard): 1d20+1=11, -5 for firing into melee, miss!

That would make it 1N-N5's turn. Odds are the stormtroopers aren't going to react well to anyone now that blasters have been fired.

Okay, so I'm going to change my action to, drawing my blaster, moving one step "north" and making an attack roll at the other human, who *hasn't* made an attack yet. I will be attacking to suppress his attack.. The good doctor, being fairly bad with weapons, misses.

Darrin, still a bit groggy from drinking a bit much of his "special formula" the night before, pulled his dark goggles back up to his forehead... troopers to one side, assassins to the other, and once again, he and his friends caught in the middle. It was no good being in the middle of a firefight, might as well have the odds on his side!

With any luck, the two assassins to the right might have a bounty on their heads... and maybe the woman did, too. Finally, a chance to be real bounty hunters! He put himself low to the ground and crept behind a nearby canister, unshouldering his rifle and taking aim.
Assuming that the troopers and assassins are more focused on their target, Darrin moves in stealth to get cover from the two assassins and avoid notice of they or the stormtroopers, one square up and one square right. He draws his blaster rifle.

Dossa cursed in slippery Gunganese. Of course the damn meckaneek had started shooting up the place. You couldn't depend on one to do anything but. Oh well... now that it had started, it was highly unlikely that it was going to end peacefully, and of the three parties involved in the fight, his was the one he had the most interest in.

He dove past the doctor, putting himself between Dennow and harm (that money the good Doctor had mentioned was a wonderful spur to action), and laid a burst of blaster fire across the two hooded strangers. There was a cry of pain, but he wasn't looking: he had turned his attention back to the boysenwhitee. What were they doing?

The second stranger, not having a clear shot on his intended target, squeezes off a quick shot at Vii'let. Distracted by the hail of blaster fire shot off by the combat droid, however, he does not have time to properly aim and harmlessly misses.

Taking up a better defensive position, Dossa Beebo fires some rounds towards the would be assassins, and one shot hits its mark. Fatally wounded, the stranger emits a cry of pain, clutching at the smoking hole in his chest before collapsing to the ground.

With blasters seemingly going off everywhere, the stormtroopers respond in the way they know how, "You're under arrest! Blast them!" Only two of them get shots off before the whole squad is thrown through the air like so many rag dolls.

Under the firefight, Vii'let manages to usher the woman to relative safety just inside the cantina doors. The woman, through the pain, says, "Thank you, I'm Maya."
Stranger 1 draws a hold-out blaster (move), attacks Krema Metyr (standard): 1d20-4=-1, miss!
Stormtrooper aims at Dr. Dennow Beyon (2 swift), attacks (standard): 1d20+2=10, miss!
Stormtrooper aims at 1N-N5 (2 swift), attacks (standard): 1d20+2=15, miss!
Krema Metyr fucks all sorts of shit up, and stormtroopers die.
Vii'let (delay) fights defensively (standard), moves inside cantina (move).
Maya moves towards cantina (move), moves inside cantina (standard).

Vii'let now acts on initiative count 1.

Stranger 1: 0/7 hp, damage exceeds threshold, dies.

Wow, um, that's a lot of dead stormtroopers. That was a readied action that went off on count 8 of the previous round. It's Dr. Beyon's turn, btw, and we'll assume the other attacks in this round were against the last assassin. They were not high enough to hit.

Also, being that there is only one enemy left on the map, and he is not long for this world, I'm not going to rework the map.

Finally, since stormtrooper 4 was killed before his action, 1N-N5 did not take the 13 damage. I will edit the post accordingly.

From the corner of his eye, Darrin had seen Krema's movement, and heard the groans and clatters of troopers hitting the floor... but he felt what had happened even before his eyes and ears had brought it to him.

He maintained his aim on the last assassin standing. Kark! My Zeison Sha masters back home could pull some pretty nasty tricks... but even just a kid trained as a Jedi... damn if that ain't something different entirely!

The temptation was there... it was a trick he'd done over and over again on the fringes to the weak-minded. All he'd have to do was say "I think you should drop your weapon and talk to us, we won't harm you" and the fella would do just as he said like it was his own idea.

No... I'm not going to let those Jedi runts know I can feel what they're doing... gotta maintain the advantage.

She sits up from the ministrations of the doctor. "Please, help me up. We must leave; more soldiers could be here any minute! I know a safe place we can hide..."
Maya has a persistent -10 condition that can only be removed through surgery or with bacta, though she is still able to walk with assistance. Her suggestion sounds like a really good idea.

Darrin shoulders his rifle and scampers over to the fallen strangers, appearing to check them for signs of life while furtively searching their persons for anything valuable. A bit ghoulish, but a life on the fringe of the galaxy didn't allow for ceremony in such a situation.

He whistled in recognition of the well placed blaster shots. "Karking hell, Dossa... right in the face? That's cold!"

Leading the way with the Ithorian at her side, Maya heads through a maintenance door towards the fringe parts of the station. The further you get from the Promenade, the less well maintained everything becomes. Lacking the spit and polish of the main portions of the stations, everything is a mess, with conduit cables hanging freely, sparking from time to time, coolant leaks venting clouds of mist into the passageways, and grease and grime everywhere.

Occasionally you pass individual or paired non-humans, carving out a squalid existence as best they can, living out of what would have once been supply or maintenance rooms. As you approach, they scurry back into their hiding holes, and while you can no longer see them, you know they watch as you pass. It seems non-humans are not welcome in this new Empire.

Finally, you arrive at an unlabeled blast door. Maya, leaning on Dr. Beyon for support, pulls out a datapad and punches a few buttons. Moments later, with a grinding whine, the door opens into what appears to be an old service airlock.

"Here we are. We should be safe in here; the Imperials never come out this far. Oh, and don't worry about the airlock. It's been welded shut, and the opening mechanisms have long ago been scavenged for parts."

Maya lets herself slump to the floor, sitting with her back to a wall. She takes a moment to rest before continuing.

"I want to thank you again for rescuing me. My name is Maya, and I am a member of Alderaanian Security, specifically part of Senator Bail Organa's personal security detail. I was sent here by the Senator to recover some very valuable cargo.

"There is a droid here by the name of Switch who is an information broker. He was responsible for receiving and storing this cargo, which was shipped all the way from the Deep Core. I was supposed to contact Switch, recover the cargo, and deliver it to Senator Organa. However, I was waylaid by the Empire mere hours after arriving on the station. Apparently, the fact that I work for a vocal opponent of the Emperor has flagged me as a troublemaker, and the Empire wants me off the station, one way or the other.

"I know you have done so much already, but I must ask for your help once again. Please, go meet Switch and recover this cargo, as it is vitally important for the greater good. If you wish to do this, you can find Switch in deep storage bay V14."

Maya smiles at the young Jedi. "Thank you for the concern, but don't worry about me. There is a ship we can board after you retrieve the cargo that will take us away from the station. I can get treatment there, and for now I should be safe in here. I'll be able to make it to the ship when the time comes."
