DIPLOMACY
Diplomacy is a strategic board game created by Allan B. Calhamer in 1954 and released commercially in 1959. Set in Europe just before the beginning of World War I , Diplomacy is played by seven or fewer players, each controlling the armed forces of major European powers. Each player aims to move their units - and defeat those of others - to win possession of a majority of strategic cities and provinces marked as "supply centers" on the map; these supply centers allow players who control them to produce more units.
In its catalog, Avalon Hill advertised Diplomacy as John F. Kennedy's and Henry Kissinger's favorite game. Dr. Kissinger described it as his favorite in an interview published in a games magazine. Walter Cronkite was also reported to be a fan of the game.
The Basics:http://ry4an.org/diptutor/mgp00001.htmlhttp://phpdiplomacy.net/intro.php (for an online variant but same rules apply)
Here's the breakdown of how the game will be played:Objective
-Control 18 Supply Centers
-Have all other players surrender to you
-A draw is declared between the remaining powers
Phase Format
The game will be run in three turn phases:
SPRING
-Spring start 12:01am on
Sunday and continue until midnight on
Monday
-Spring is a movement phase, meaning you perform all the basic orders
FALL
-Fall will start at 12:01am on
Tuesday and will go on until midnight on
Wednesday
-Fall is the second movement phase
-At the end of each Fall post, I will post what each player must do in the Winter phase
WINTER
-Also referred to as the Assignment or Build Phase
-Winter will start at 12:01am on
Thursday and go on until midnight on
Friday
-None of the normal orders are used
-Territories that are not yours and you occupy will come under your ownership
-The number of Supply Centers each player owns is tallied up, and each player's unit count MUST equal their Supply Center count
-Players must issue a build or remove order where necessary (again, it will be stated what you have to do in the FALL stage, it's all of matter of choosing what to build where or what to remove)
Orders
-The basic orders are MOVE, SUPPORT, and FERRY
-These are covered in the slideshow above
-Here is the format the orders MUST be in
MOVE:
{unit} {location abbreviation} MOVE {destination abbreviation}
example:
A rom MOVE tus (moves an army from Rome to Tuscany)
SUPPORT
{unit} {location abbreviation} S {supported unit} {support unit location abbreviation}
example:
A war S A pru (Army in Warsaw supports an Army holding in Prussia)
FERRY
A {start location abbr.} - {destination location abbr.}
F {unit location} C A {convoyed unit start location} - {convoyed unit destination}
example:
A bul - arm
F bla C A bul - arm
*If the orders are not in this format, they will be thrown out. This is so people can't try to feign an order, see how the board plays out, then say they meant something else
**We're omitting HOLD orders for simplicity's sake, if you want them to hold don't order anything
Gentleman, here is your game board:
*Note the black dots on the board. These are the Supply Centers.
**Another major thing to note is that Iceland and Switzerland (swi) are neutral and you CANNOT enter those areas.
The opening unit placements will be revealed upon the first turn post.
Turn posts will consist of two game board images, one showing the orders before they are resolved (with nifty arrows pointing where everyone is going) and the resolved game board.
The list of orders made by each country will then be printed under the game boards for convenience.
On Fall turn posts, the Winter requirements will be posted under the orders list.
I will be editing the reserved post with each turn post, as well as posting them at the end of each thread so no one misses them
I recommend newcomers read the slides and really understand them, and not just the gist of the gameplay. Find guides online as well and get familiar with terms like bounced, inland and shore countries, support, ferrying, buffer states, etc.
*One final note
This isn't Risk. The whole fun comes from manipulating the people about you and acting like a real Diplomat and General. You can't win the game solo, but you'll never have any allies, think about that.
**GAME WILL BEGIN SUNDAY 12:01am WITH PRE-GAME POST SHOWING UNIT PLACEMENT**[/SIZE]
Good luck

Here are the opening positions. From here you talk amongst yourselves, do as Diplomats do, and send your orders my way.
Remember: Orders must be in the specific format listed in the OP or they will be thrown out
The colored in states are the ones you own, everything else is up for grabs
And please note that the number of SCs you own (the black dots) equals the number of units you have. This comes into play when Winter (the build phase) rolls around.
Orders are due Monday before midnight
Good Luck Gentlemen

Aren't these allways the same?
Yes, and are easily sought out
and upon retrospect I don't know why left them out
Don't worry about it
Even though I'll probably get my brainless ass handed to me.
Mine is in actual green so that makes mine bestest.
I'll get countries sorted tomorrow
if 7 more people sign up, a second game will run
Because 2 phallas isnt enough >_<
Edit dammit! I missed the game with Rend! /wrists
I don't think I can handle so many forum games at once, but this looks fun. I need to drag my old Diplomacy files from my old computer onto this new one... it's been a while.

oh goddamn I hope I'm not too late
This is definitely feeling like it. It's pretty similar to Phalla Royale actually, and that still counts. ;-)
The main awesome bit is that the roles are known but it's the hidden "votes" and intentions that are the worrisome part.
Gumpy was the last, sorry jimninja
Countries for both games will be listed tonight.
Both games will begin at the same time
Not sure whether it's proper forum etiquette to post two OPs, one for Alpha and one for Beta
Think it's ok?
