I had all those books. When Godzilla and the Lost Continent never came out I almost cried.

Man I want to read it. I want to find out what happened with Angilus and Varan.

I was hoping more that Destroyah would be the new monster in the book. They were hinting at it in the book summary.

Your fuckin' family's dug into the Southie projects like ticks. You, however, grew up on the North Shore, huh? Well, la-di-fuckin'-da. You were kind of a double kid, I bet, right? Huh? One kid with your old man, one kid with your mother. You're upper-middle class during the weeks, then you're droppin' your "R"s and you're hangin' in the big, bad Southie projects with your daddy on the weekends. I got that right?

I used to rent a new Godzilla movie from the video store every week or so as a child. They were all on VHS back then and in a single revolving rack in the corner of the store. I still remember watching Godzilla 1985 and not realizing that it was supposed to take place in the future, as it was around the early 1990s at this point.

I also thought the cartoon was bullshit because why in fuck's name would Godzilla be answering every beck and call from an American research vessel like some kind of personal bodyguard? I saw the one where he comes out of the Nile to fight some monster (I think it was the Nile). So what? he just chills nearby in the closest body of water, regardless as to whether it's deep enough to house him?

    Lame.

Go wreck shit Gojira. Don't listen to humans.

I still remember sitting up late at night and watching Gamera in black and white and getting all misty eyed when he flew off into space.

    Oh and Godzilla's cool too.

When I was a senior in high school my girlfriend had already graduated and had gotten a huge Godzilla blowup doll from one of her teachers. Like, ten feet tall and very authentic looking. She dragged it through the halls of the school and into my math class on my birthday - she had been a big name in the school, so all the teachers were happy to see her.

I miss that Godzilla more than I miss her.

    I remind you of somebody, don't I?

I read one of those Godzilla books.
It was surprisingly dark for a children's novel.

Godzilla 1985 was released in Japan in '84 and here in '85, so I don't think it was actually supposed to be futuristic. Lasers and super-amazing attack planes are pretty much standard in a Godzilla movie of any time period.

I am pretty fucking excited for Cloverfield.

Partially because it's going to make all of the Voltron, Cthulhu and Godzilla conspiracy theorists look like idiots, and partially because giant monster wrecking shit is a basic human story that all people can enjoy.

Oh those wacky Jappos! I guess I was wrong.

You know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see them do a reboot of the series starting during World War II but using modern special effects and filming techniques. I don't like the futuristic stuff, I prefer the mid-20th-century settings.

It's not really "futuristic", though. Pretty much every Godzilla movie takes place in something similar to modern day. It's just that any timeline with Godzilla in it quickly develops technology to keep him from killing everyone.
