Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
Today my wireless router died, so I figured what the hell, I'll but the D-Link extreme N thingy-ma-jigger. Anyway, an hour later I have it installed (wtf, I've never spent more than 5 minutes installing a router before) and it's finally recognizing my internet connection.
At first when it was saying I didn't have an internet connection I used the included ethernet cable between my laptop and cable modem to check it all out. Now the cable is literally stuck in my ethernet port. I've pulled with all my strength and it won't come out. What now? I'm tempted to use pliers but since there's that "never have to force anything with a computer" rule, im afraid I'll break something.
Try pinching down the tab on the jack closer to the socket, additionally try wiggling the jack up/down while pushing in and out (CAREFULLY AND LIGHTLY).
No, it's not in upside down or sideways. I've tried the wiggling/pushing in and out to no avail. Any other ideas?
I'm thinking the pliers might help me get a better grip, also might help me pinch down closer to the end of the cable. I really could care less about the cable, its just the laptop I dont wanna break.
If you rip straight back with a pair of pliers, the only thing you're LIKELY to break is a plastic tab on the laptop's ethernet slot, or a plastic bump on the cable end.
So the most likely "worst case" scenario is that you'll have a laptop that cords don't really fit into properly, so you'll have to be mindful of moving the laptop around when a cord is connected to that port. But it's unlikely that you'll want to move the laptop about too much when it's plugged in anyhow.
Maybe you could have some other nightmare scenario play out but I don't see it happening. Just pull straight back, not to either side. If it's to one side or the other you might bend or break a pin on the laptop side of the port.
IT'S GOT ME REACHING IN MY POCKET IT'S GOT ME FORKING OVER CASH
CUZ THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE AND IT'S GIVING ME A RASH
