Okay so there's an exploit in the 3rd map of dustbowl where the defending team can lob grenades over the right wall form the hallways into the first point where blue exits the gates. Or even a soldier can rocket jump on the roof. very fucking annoying.

Mr. Banballow was so badly maimed, he turned into a hideous monster, oozing and bleeding, snarling and growling like a beast---enraged and bent on revenge. He tracked down the kids responsible for the fire and killed them one by one----with a blowtorch. That wasn't enough for Banballow. He won't leave his inn or his memories, so there he waits....in ambush....

So in the hundreds of e-mail exchanges fans have had with Valve employees, was there ever any mention of TF2 bots in development?
I personally doubt there will be. There were some third-party bots for TFC, but they really only worked well with the deathmatch-play classes: soldier, heavy, sniper. It would be hard to code for a few of the classes - spy or engy, for example. Do you just have a list of good SG locations and make the bot pick randomly from it? When should the bot cloak, what should he disguise as? Could you juke an electronic demoman to get him to detonate his stickies early?

I should note that my experience with somewhat-competitive play is limited, as I've only played Medic in such games, and only as a stand-in.

For sequential maps, class imbalance begins with Engineers. Whoever captures the first point will likely push onward to win the match. As setting up a sentry gun at the first contested point is not viable in a game against anyone with so much as an inkling of grey matter, for each player that goes Engineer a team is down one useful player in the crucial fight for the first point. Teleporters are largely useless; Scouts and Medics run quickly enough, Demomen and Soldiers can propel themselves to speed up travel and Snipers should not die often. Dispensers are worthless.

Because there are no teleporters, noone would use a Heavy for anything but defending the final point. Heavy is slow.

Because there are no sentry guns or Heavies, noone in their right mind would play a Spy. All of the classes popular in sequential maps would destroy a Spy; Scouts and Medics are too fast, Demomen and Soldiers will use explosives against anyone who comes near, Snipers generally don't use charged shots (they aim without the scope, then snap to the scope just before firing) so they aren't the easy targets that they are in public games. That aside, the Spy needs a lot of help and seems to be largely balanced around the XBox 360 version of Team Fortress 2 and gormless fucks who don't turn around when they hear a squishing sound and death scream six feet behind them. You know who you are. I was right to call you an idiot, PA regular or not.

Because there are no Spies, ha ha, Pyros. A Pyro will lose to a Soldier in close-quarters combat so, really, what's the point? Expect Pyros to be a rarity in almost all circumstances.

Well on the 5 point CP maps this all makes sense, I want to see if they play any of the other maps to see how it goes.

I wasn't saying they should play those classes, especially on the 5 CP maps. I'm just curious to see what would happen if you added 5 more players to each team, that's all. I suppose you'd just increase the amount of soldiers and medics.

Are spies and pyros not allowed in competitive play?

I'm not seeing any in these videos.

Oh wait I see Mumbly's explanation, but I have to argue that Pyros are much more useful than just for killing spies. The usefulness of their flanking is unmatched. Also when ubered they have a particularly nasty killing streak.

I probably argue that because I play Pyro more than any class, and though my stats are lacking, I'm consistently in the top 3 or so of the team on our PA servers.

I'm sorry, but pyros is the suck. Getting killed by every class because you're more than 10 yards away is a pain enough, but even the one redeeming feature, when you sneak up on a heavy/med or something and start firing away isn't that great because I recognize I'd have done just as much damage just firing 4 rockets into the fray...

Also, can we change how much time we spend on each map by changing how often they pop up? I mean, equality is nice and all that. But last night we had 23 people on Job's, then we went to Hydro and it dropped, then it went to Granary and dropped more, and by the time we made it to dustbowl the first round of offense was a waste becuase we had like 10 people left. Naturally afterwards it filled back up. This is the players' way of telling you, server-admins, that all maps are equal, but some are more equal than others.
I'd love for Turbine to take Hydro's spot for good for example, and I haven't played the other customs, but I figure they all have to be better than Hydro/Granary anyway.
    More dustbowl! Less hydro!

    STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE MAPS.

For every 1 person that hates hydro... there is someone that hates 2fort... and someone who hates dustbowl... and someone who hates grainery.

Get over it. If people would actually coordinate as a team, then you will either :

    a) have fun
    b) win quick to switch maps.

Why was the custom map server empty last night if these maps suck so much? Why is anyone playing on a PA server if they actually don't want to play with anyone? Posting here does not obligate you to play on a PA server.

Sure, there's 1 person who hates dustbowl. I understand it's subjective, which is why I tried to add some degree of objectivity to it by showing that the overall population on the servers changes depending on the maps. It's not a coincidence that the server population spikes everytime dustbowl comes up. And custom maps, whether they're good or not, have always had a tendency to kill server populations because 1. it involves downloading so a bunch of people just don't, and 2. while everyone is downloading only a few people are playing so they leave.

I didn't even know we had a custom map server, haha. I've got to go add more servers to my favorites...

And that comment 'why is anyone playing on a PA server if they actually dont want to play with anyone'... I'm not sure exactly what you said, but I'm assuming it follows the rationality "if you have anything less than sparkling positive to say, you shouldn't play", which I find particularly dumb because constructive criticism shouldn't be something to fear or loathe. We all have fun on the servers, that's why the servers still have players despite being PW protected, I'm just suggesting a way more people would have fun.

...no need to get so hostile about it.

Yeah, Soldier+ Medic>> Pyro+Medic for general purposes. The occasional ambush uber + crit flames rarely makes up for faster uber generation, or a partner that's better at keeping the medic alive in close/mid range combat.

Watching the TFTV really puts the game in a whole different light. With no sentry's in a small team game the pace of the game just ratchets up incredibly. Granted all but one of those videos was a clips show. But it still was easy to gauge the pace.

I don't think anyone on the PA servers that plays on a semi-regular basis is any form of suck.. even the lowest scoring people still accomplish many good things. They just don't have that little extra bit of skill to live though it.

If people would really make an effort to not only take initiative & coordinate attacks.. and actually listen when someone does.. every game would be epic. Yes, even on 2fort.

Really, how awesome is it when a coordinated effort kills the 'tunnel base' on dustbowl ? or sets one up? Jonxp is the most vocal person I have ever played with... and he gets shit done.

Haha, thanks man. I'm pretty below average with actual killing people skill, so I figure I should help out somewhere. There's someone else who does a lot of talking while they're playing and I love it, it really helps out (I wish I could remember who it was).

UBER + Scout is very effective too.. 6 close up blasts, and a bat, along with quickly closing on the enemy makes for a very nice uber

Uber + Medic was a fun distraction too... bonesaws are scary enough... but when they are immortal, they are downright frightening.

    Oh yeah...PROTIP!

Last night after my server evacuated we were messing around and discovered that you can get ammo from enemy dispensers, but not health (unless you're a disguised spy).

So that means don't destroy those enemy dispensers if they can be of use to you, and engies should definitely take theirs down if they're behind enemy lines.

Do you really need everyone to stay on? Most nights both servers are full and the only hope someone has of getting on to play is for the map to change to hydro or 2fort.
