Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
After reformatting my pc today, I found that Crysis was suddenly running super choppy on the high settings on my Core2Duo 2.4, e-vga 8800GTS, whereas it ran great beforehand. A quick "optimal settings" check bumped it to Medium, which struck me as odd.
So I run a quick Intel Processor ID utility, which tells me that each core was running at 1.19 ghz and the system bus (expected: 1066 MHz) was set at 531 mhz for each core.
That seemed odd to me, as I thought that EACH core was supposed to be 2.4, not with each core COMBINING for a total of 2.4.
So I ran CPU-Z, which told me I have a core speed of 798.1 mhz.
What the hell do I do?

Did you, by any chance, make any changes to the BIOS? Many BIOS settings let you manually set the bus speed on your processor and if it's not set right then you have issues like this one. Try flashing the BIOS to the latest. Beyond that, make sure you have all the latest drivers for your system, especially the chipset driver.

CPU-Z shows my 2.2ghz Core 2 Duo as 1200mhz. Strange.
But the thing is this only happened after I formatted. Prior to, it was working just fine.
You may need to run an update on your chipset drivers.
