Me too. And I think he got it backwards, the bullet-time effect seems to be associated with really good shit.

Gameplay-wise, I agree, to a certain extent. The dialogue seems kind of dumbed down in Mass Effect.
I found the Mako sections to be bloody annoying too. And it suffers from the Bioware thing of "Well you have this urgent, time-critical mission to complete but here's a load of other stuff to do as well". It's good for variety, but it sort of takes away from the drama of the main quest.
