[Gauging Interest] HL2 pBp Campaign

I have been playing alot of the Orange Box lately and it was reawakened my interested in the Half-Life Universe. And I've been thinking about starting up a campaign that takes place in one of the other Cities not seen in the game.

As there are still a lot of quirks that would need to be worked out (such as specifics of the settings) and some experimental elements I wanted to add such as the inclusion of the G-man and perhaps more player control.

But before I started working on all that I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in playing.

What system would you use to run it? nWoD? SW:SE? GURPS?

If I had to go with one I was thinking GURPS.

Though I did want to try coming up with an experimental ruleset that would better fit the format of Forum roleplaying. I'm not sure if that would fly or not or if its allowed. The positive is anyone would be able to play and there isn't much of a commitment. The negative is you aren't sure of what you are getting into.

More about the Setting : Its likely the City will be much more extreme than City 17. With the Combine performing more experiments on the City's denizens. But at the same time the denizens are more capable bunch - either intellectually or physically (or both). Hence why they were placed in this particular city to begin with.

I'm really just trying to see if anyone is interested in the least... If someone might be right now, but after I release the complete storyline and terms of play - aren't . Thats perfectly fine.

Although I'm not particularly interested in a Half Life RPG the idea of a system designed specifically for PbP intrigues me. Does anyone know if any such systems exist already?

  • Some form of diceless or rules light system would probably be the best bet for what you're looking for.

And, as a HL2 fan, I'd definitely be interested.

If no one objects to lurkers joining up, I'd be interested.

Cool. I'm currently looking at GURPS light. But if you have any better suggestions feel free to post/pm them.

As long as you have an interest that is good enough. So welcome aboard :)

While the setting is hardly concrete here a few things that are in the works

    1. Its likely the player group will consist of sleepers (similar to Gordon Freeman). Who are awakened from their stasis by an unknown source (you won't be guided by the G-MAN or even know if he was involved)

    2. In almost polar opposition to HL2. Water will not be an uncommon sight. The city will in some ways resemble Alcatraz.

    3. Civil Protection essentially doesn't exist in this city. And the only humanoid guards are Overwatch

    4. The Human figure-head is a much less cooperative servant than Breen

    5. Instead of even putting up the pretense of coexistence. The city exists solely to house specimens of interest.

    6. This serves several purposes. But the most overt are experimentations and attempts to create better human lapdogs .

    7. An experimental element that may or may not be added, is the ability for players to play more than one character . And allowing them the choice of making one character invincible while others can potentially die. It may make the game more exciting, but it could add a lot more work.
