Fashion and style issues aside, it's the most comfortable gaming/theatre area I've ever had. Seriously I love this room

How are those sumo's? I was thinking of getting one of them for my room at my apt but they look rather large and I don't have that much room. Are they worth it?

I ran reviews on all 3 chairs awhile back ... repost from an older thread:
    Bamelin wrote:

In a nutshell the Sumo is a decent option if you're on a tight budget ... be aware though you'll need to put in more fill within about six months or so (it decompresses). The Fatboy is abit bigger and the fill seems to be lasting longer, however I don't think it's worth the almost double cost of the Sumo.

Lovesac is the way to go if you've got cash to burn, or need gaming furniture that will look decent to your spouse. They have MovieSac's on sale right now (regular cost 550, you can get it now for $350): http://www.lovesac.com/vdaymoviesac.asp

    Might be worth checking out.

My area is a temporary setup and quite shitty to be honest. Its basically the smallest computer desk in history with a massive stack of PC games on the top shelf. My computer, a 19 inch widescreen, and the console of choice for the night (PS3 or 360) are on the main part of the desk. The non used console is in the room. When I get my own place pretty soon Ill put together a proper setup. I use my monitor for the consoles... and I kinda like it! Im a sit real close to the TV kind of gamer and this is perfect.

PS3: MistaCreepy::Steam: MistaCreepy::360: Dead and I don't feel like paying to fix it.
  • BamelinBamelin Registered User regular
I'm curious, do some of you prefer to use smaller sets to game on? When I first moved to the 42 inch from 27 I found the first day it was really hard to get used to such a massive screen.

It's a mixing desk. I do a lot of work recording and editing music in cubase and various other programs, and the most expensive software on my PC is all that kinda stuff, and my sound card's pretty high-end too. That's what all the weird colour keys are on my keyboard, too - cubase hotkeys etc. Still, it's pretty useful for what I use it for, and a few E3s ago I used it to do some live radio shows forwarding through audio feeds of the conferences for people who couldn't find a live feed elsewhere, and it was great for that. It's not a very good desk though in honesty. I need to get a better one.

I remember working at various GameCrazy-s when the PS2 slim launched. People would come back and rant and rave about how it was overheating and was a terrible piece of crap. I asked them where they kept it, and 90% of the time the answer was either:

    A.) On the carpet, or
B.) In an entertainment center surrounded by other electronics.

And then, unsurprisingly, the exact same thing happened when the Xbox 360 launched. The general rule of thumb is if it has a fan in it, you need at least 3-5 inches of clearance on all sides at the minimum, and don't ever put anything on the carpet if it has vents near the bottom.

I have a shitty 1.3MP digicam, but it gets the job done:

    Overview of my gaming area:

    32" tube tv:

    IM001210-1.jpg

    Media center, complete with:

    DVD player
    NES yobo redesign
    Wii
    PS2 phat
    N64
Media Computer, with digital tv atsc tuner
    surround sound speakers
    wireless kbam
    lots of controllers:

    IM001211.jpg

    IM001218.jpg

Next to that are my Nintendo-related games:

    Wii
    DS
    GB/GBC/GBA
    N64
    NES

All neatly cased+covered, including games like Wii Sports/Link's CBT, and all my GBA/GB/GBC and N64 games:

    IM001213.jpg

    IM001219.jpg

    IM001220.jpg

Next to that is my gaming comfy couch:

I threw in some of my peripherals for the heck of it:

    IM001212.jpg

In the other corner are my DVD racks:

These include my PS1 and PS2 and GameCube collections, and my DVD collections on the right:

    IM001215.jpg

    IM001224.jpg

of course all of my PS1 games are cased and covered, too.

Then I have my PC setup:

    IM001225.jpg

It's delightfully hideous. But you can see my busted PC on the left, my nice monitor and webcam on top, a little blue Mushroom Powerup on top of my law school flash cards, a printer, mp3 player, scanner, tv tuner.. and some junk/trash everywhere.

That's my place! It's more fun in real life than in photos.

Slightly off topic - You guys really, really need to lay your Xbox 360's down and give them a bit of breathing space. Same with the other consoles. They won't last long if you cramp em all up.

It's not really my place, it got posted in some Kotaku article a while back about shitty/joke gaming setups or something. This thread reminded me of it.

Gotta represent the poor and desperate gamers out there!

I mean, it's the ideal setup. You got your TV, your gamecube, your gallons of water, your duct tape, your image of Nintendo President Iwata, etc.

I refuse to believe that this is a bedroom, you see.

Perhaps he lives in a Sony household, and he had to smuggle the GC in, although he hates rare, so it could be a Pro-Xbox family. either way, it could be that hes trying to hide his love for Nintendo

If anything it's a secret Nintendo brainwashing site. The duct tape to bind you, the Gamecube for the brain-scrubbin', the image of Iwata your new master, the reminder that since Nintendo sold Rare they now suck, and some water for sustenance/waterboarding torture.

    Here's my similar Depression-era setup:
    Spoiler:
My old/cheap TV, complete with mono sound. The staple of poor students everywhere. I also noticed my console preference runs parallel to who ends up market leader. Sony, Microsoft, convince me next-gen and I'll make you #1.
    Spoiler:
I see many of you have shelves for your portables games. I'm old school, all those babies get tossed in the bag my mother mistakenly thought would keep all my junk together many years ago.
    Spoiler:
I know what some of you are thinking: toxk you can't play original GB games on the DS, what gives? My SP is elsewhere, along with my guitar and bongos. Much of my handheld collection isn't presently with me as well. I also want to take this time to throw a shout-out to 'Bases Loaded'. F'ing awesome game.

    OTP.jpg
  • slash000slash000 Registered User regular
First of all, Bases Loaded was indeed awesome.

Second of all, I keep all of my DS/GB/GBC/GBA cases, covers, and manuals stored on a shelf, but I keep all of my DS games in tiny, hard plastic cases that are stored and organized neatly in a portable DS carrying case.

Most of my GB/GBC/GBA games, though, I keep stored in their cases on the shelf, because I don't really play those any more. Except to take out a classic like Ninja Five-0 every once in a while.
