Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

[Help] Me remember an old space game

I want to say it was made by Sierra but glancing over their title list, it doesn't appear so.

The game did come on CD, but I remember having SimLife on floppy disk shortly before that.

The game revolved around the survivors of a horrific, but horribly overplayed, destruction of Earth scenario, where they loaded everyone into a ship or two and sent them off into space, to live amongst the stars. The game combined Sim-City-ish building, space ships, hunting that is similar to Oregon Trail's hunting, and hilariously tragic "blow up the sun" problems that you could come across.

For some reason it's stuck in my head and I refuse to go another day without re-living my PC gaming fun.

I remember a Sierra game called Outpost that sounds similar to your description, although truth to tell I didn't really play much of it so I might have misrembered the details. I just recall it because it the AI advisor had a really nice voice and pandering mannerism.

Well, from what I'm seeing on the Wikipedia article, I don't think that's it.

Although they do have a bit on there about colonies having a 2^n exponential death rate due to a bug in the code.

    That's golden.

Never played a space game with hunting a la Oregon Trail. The SimCity part makes me think of Reunion though.

No to both the new suggestions.

    I'm thinking it's Alien Legacy.

I'm also thinking I can't get this game to run again.

Have you tried running it through dosbox? Great for getting archaic games like ultima7 to play maybe will work for yours too.

I heard DOSBOX is a bitch to get running is this true? I have a copy of Daggerfall I'd like to play again. :) (That and Freddy Pharkus... If anyone remembers that game!)

In my experience, no. You just run it, do mount C: "filename", change to the C: drive and run the app. Easy as pie.

No, it's the games themselves. Daggerfall takes a bitch of a machine to emulate.

Outpost was my guess too but there's no hunting or blow up the sun problems.
