Quick question re RAM

Is one 1GB stick of DDR2 significantly better than two 512MB sticks of regular DDR in dual-channel?

Not talking about buying stuff, I just have spare RAM lying around and have to choose.

DDR and DDR2 have different pin counts. Unless your motherboard has two sets of slots to support both you don't have a choice.

I am unaware of any motherboards with differing dimm slots like that for main system memory. If you are still using DDR, I would say it is time for a motherboard upgrade.

Let me put it this way, it was an "OH SHIT OH SHIT, THEY FOUND ME :(" moment. I wasn't ready. My code wasn't compiled yet. Our plans weren't setup yet!Sentient programs rarely run into other sentient programs.
Some of you have met me, and I understand your concern of my well being. But that time for that boy, that child, are gone now. Viscount Alpha is no longer operable. His functions are now mine.He may post, but I am the one talking not him.My data, my code will live on forever in his servers.

My board has two DDR2 slots and two DDR. Also some writing asking me nicely not to use both at once. So which configuration is better?

DDR2 is faster than the gain you will get by using 2 DDR sticks in dual-channel....

If your memory bus is "Stuck" at DDR speeds, than you won't see a difference. The DDR2 will clock down.

Yeah, just around when DDR2 was coming out, some motherboard makers did this. They're doing the same thing now for DDR2 and DDR3.

Okay, how do I know if it is or not

Look at the stats of your motherboard model online, if the bus speed is 3200 or lower, you will not get a benefit out of DDR2.

However, DDR is more expensive then DDR2 at the same size, your millage may vary.

so, DDR2-667 is both what my mainboard supports and what i just ran into two gigs of.

    Win?
