I'd pay cashmoney££$$€€ for a Soul Calibur where I could put Vader against Optimus and Megatron against Yoda. Not much left of Soul Calibur, but it'd still be awesome.
I played SC1 ALOT back in the day with roomies and a bunch of friends. We were sorta obsessed with it really. I played Xianghua and my friends played various other characters. There were a bunch variety in our matches so we're not just a bunch of punks mashing buttons.
However, I only played the second one briefly, and didn't touch 3 at all.
I guess I'm just worried that there might be some dramatic gameplay mechanic changes they slipped in since the first one of the series. Regardless, I'll probably rent the newest one and check it out first.

Its coming out soon(7/29 from wikipedia) so we will find out how much T&A makes the final version of it. I'm not certain this will end well but it should be fairly amusing.

Is this game being shipped early from the store? We're supposedly getting this next week, so if that is the case, I'll be popping in to give impressions.

A couple of places already sold it early (New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland).
Impressions are already being given in several threads. The intro is this:
I'm pretty sure that star wars stage takes place in the Death Star, but... overlooking the Death Star.
Star Destroyer.
Pfffsh. Star Destroyer docks are on the bottom of the ship and you fly up inside them, like in the opening of New Hope when the star destroyer chomps the Blockade Runner
So far, for all you casuals, you'll be pleased to know that each main character has 50 slots available for customized getups.
For everyone else there's the looming threat of CFs being a real feature in mid and high level play. Just when everyone thought it was safe to go back into the water, too.

You don't want to know how far this rabbit hole goes.
They have smaller docks on the side. That's the stage.
Full of generic cat-face, spindle-arm/legs, etc? That everyone and their mother that draws comics in that style uses?
Yeah, that.
You're not even fucking kidding.
That's the official "anime" artist for SC. The art is very stylized and unique to the artist. It's written and drawn in a comical style so you'll see some manga cliches, but the characters, poses, and emotions are all unique and well represented.
This is why I worry about your review.
Speaking as someone who actually, you know, READS manga titles and follows anime I will happily say that the linked comic has nothing even close to renderings that are "very stylized and unique to the artist." It looks like Tenchi with shittier art.
I agree that it isn't a big deal, but trying to say that this stuff is some kind of unique and well-illustrated artwork out of blind loyalty to the series is just stupid. Its a low-budget, minor part of the game's overall public face and they used low-budget, minor artwork to create it.

You must've read too much manga or watched too much anime too close to the screen in the dark to fuck up your eyesight that badly. It looks nothing like Tenchi.
That's a pretty good example of the appeal to authority fallacy though, but that's still not a good reason to bring back a two week old argument.

CFs are round enders, after your soul orb has been completely trashed. They can't be disabled, and they may be a real factor, since in most of the gameplay showing actually good players has red orbs possible by the third round.
Generally, though, if you got hit with a CF then you lost anyways.
So that's where all those fatalities they removed for Mortal Kombat vs DC went.
Except Mortal Kombat vs DC never removed fatalities at all!
I wish the CFs were a bit better integrated into the fight, as opposed to the way they start the cutscene. It just sort of breaks the matche's tension with the way they do it now. Also, Cassandra's CF should have been Voldo's, and Raphael's CF should have been more like Demitri's Midnight Bliss (from Darkstalkers), if you know what I mean.
At the very least, I could do without the CRITICAL FINISHER appearing on screen. You just saw your character cast into the void; you don't need the game to explain what just happened.

C'mon, this is Namco we're talking about.
Their ground are apparantly hollow shells which regenarate immediately.
Based on this vid and a few others it looks like Xianghua is getting a few new moves finally.
Shhhhhhh.
We don't want to give them anymore ideas.
It will be awesome.
Of course, this is purely hyperbole.
However, I only played the second one briefly, and didn't touch 3 at all.
So did I miss anything good?
Three had better presentation, and story wise, and felt alot like SC1. But was balanced horribly due to lack of arcade testing.

Too much cleavage. Thats more then even I need.
The French version probably has extra cleavage.

With cleavage?
Battle.net: Fireflash#1425
Steam Friend code: 45386507
Also, customizable boobies? What will they think of next.
Star Destroyer.
Even more customizable boobies.
Also, how do we know that this tale of Souls and Swords is Eternally Retold if they won't put that in the intro anymore?
Instead of Mitsurugi vs Darth Vader, it has Astaroth vs Yoda.

Kyle Fucking Katarn. First Jedi I'm making.
Beyond Star Wars characters, I'm thinking of making the characters from .hack//G.U.
Also, if anyone's curious: All the CFs except for Vader, Apprentice and Unknown slot.
Vader's CF
Apprentice's CF
