We all like Texas Hold 'Em poker, we get it. It's on TV all the time blah blah blah.

I started off with Black Jack but that's pretty mechanical and uninteresting once you get the system down.

Pai Gow Poker is fun because you actually have to strategize and make the best hands.

Avoid the slots. If you play slots you're retarded. Unless you're an old lady or easily amused by bright lights and flashing colors.

Let it Ride is just a table-game version of a slot machine

Wagering on horse racing (and to a lesser extent all sports betting) is also stupid because you can't affect the outcome.
If it's my money, I want to be able to win or lose it myself.

Last time I gambled in a public place I lost $100 in hold em to a complete moron who got lucky on a river card. I'll never sit at a table like that again.

The last time I had poker at my house I cleaned up pretty well.

That's why Hold Em is a crappy game. People will either buy a pot with an "ALL IN LOLOLOL" or be to stupid to fold when they should just to get lucky with a 10% chance win on the last card.

I only enjoy it when playing against people who play for real. With some strategy.

I agree that it's much more satisfying taking money from people you know in the comfort of your own home.

However, if you're young and you sit down at a table with a bunch of old people, they immediately underestimate you, when in reality they are as clueless as the net person.

That might only work in AC though.

Same here. I only did it because I was playing with my best friend in Florida and I had never done it before. I would maybe consider doing an amateur tournament there again but not a cash game.

This fucking Korean dude must have dropped $1200 on the table I was playing. Worst poker player I had ever seen. Thank god it wasn't him I lost to.

Last time I gambled was at the boats in Kansas City.

I won enough playing blackjack to cover my hotel room, food, and gas for the trip.

Some friends and I used to get together every week and play hold 'em. Not so much anymore.

me and my brother had just moved in and couldn't find the box with the poker chips

and since everyone present (except for one guy who fucked the whole thing up) was a smoker it seemed like the natural next step

also by the end of the night i'd cleaned three people out and made them move my shit to earn cigarettes back

We went to Baton Rouge this last weekend for an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. 2 of my teammates went to a casino with $100 each.

One of them won $300 playing Texas Hold Em. The other one lost all his money in one hand.

The best part is the one that won $300 is Jewish and he said if his dad ever found out he was gambling he'd kick his ass so hard.

When I moved to Seattle, I had plenty of money saved. I had been playing poker for decent stakes for a while (in the "reservation casino" near my hometown), and I thought I'd try making enough to more or less live off of.

Between playing online and playing at some of the local casinos, I did pretty OK.

Then, while playing Omaha Hold 'Em, I lost over $600 in one day (about $1000 over the entire weekend), and realized that gambling was not something I wanted to do as a career.

After a while, I learned how to work the system for black jack and then I'd go with 20 bucks, turn it into 30 or 40 and then go sit at the bar for the rest of the night watching Sports Center while drinking draft beer for 3.50 a pint.

I should clarify that when I said I learned how to work the system, I mean, I learned how not to lose using the basic strategy. The casino I played at used 3 decks, but I think they changed to 4 decks at one point because the card containers (the shoe?) seemed to get bigger.

But if you're aiming to play games with rates of loss, you can just come to the alley out back, bring your wallet, and we can rochambeau for it.

Not totally true. I've played in a couple of free satellites on pokerstars, and towards the end you get some decent play. At the beginning you have to duck bullets all day, though.

You obviously can't pick up tells, but you can pick up betting patterns pretty fucking quick.
