For the people that complained about the water-soluable aliens in Signs, is it really any more or less believable than a species capable of intergalactic travel wouldn't take into account the fact that germs and bacteria on Earth might be deadly, a la War of the Worlds?

Technically the aliens in War of the Worlds were Martians, and intergalactic travel never came into play.

Pip, water has different effects depending on which state it's in. For example, a sheet of paper doesn't become unusable just from touching the air.

I don't think you understand chemistry

    but ok

    Duke Pippington,

Do you mean to say that the aliens should have burst into flames because of the water in the air? I don't think that would make sense. I mean, sodium has a volitile chemical reaction when you put it in water, right? But it doesn't do that just sitting out in the air. At least, I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

it does in fact, that's why sodium and similar elements in their elemental form are kept in oils, generally kerosine

in the very least their respiratory systems would have been horribly burned

Maybe they don't have respiratory systems.

    they were breathing

I always thought it was something that lived in the water on earth, not the water itself.

If I remember correctly the remake of War of the Worlds went so far as to just say that's what it was.

In War of the Worlds (the movie, just like the book) they died due to bacteria.

Extremely plausible. A civilization so advanced that they had wiped out infection thousands of years ago wouldn't have an immune system to handle a cold.

Ocean's 12 has horrid, cold shit on a limp dick.

Ocean's 13 was as you say.

    11 is still the best.

Signs had one very creepy scene and maybe three or four sort of creepy scenes, but at it's heart it's about a family under crisis and a man who's sort of lost his way regaining his faith, because that's what his family needs most during this crisis.

Then you shouldn't use aliens as a flimsy, poorly thought-out plot device to make your point
