This thread is about the rocking 80's cartoon Adventures of the Gummi Bears

bears.jpg

Gummi Bears is the story of bears living in a Dark Age forest, named Gummi Glen, who gain superhuman (superbear?) powers after drinking gummiberry juice. This power usually included bouncing around here and there and everywhere.

The Gummi Bears have human friends like Cavin the squire and Princess Calla who help save them from the clutches of Duke Igthorn and his ogre minions who strive to gain the power of the gummijuice.

This was Disney's first original cartoon series which would one day give birth to other kickass shows such as Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, and Talespin.

It also has one of the best theme songs ever. Second only to Duck Tales

My favorites were Tummi and Sunni. LOL

I remember I had this tape full of songs from this show, and I played it on my little radio cassette player thing ALL THE TIME and eventually my dad threw it away when I was at a sleepover

That said I barely remember anything about this show other than gummibear juice being really important

  • I remember later in the series that they met another gummy bear who had an airship. And he had dashing good looks. Am i correct about this?

After awakening, he inspired the Glen Gummies to follow him aboard his blimp so that they could live with the Great Gummies. All, except for Cubbi who would later have a change of heart, had decided to remain at Gummi Glen. Cubbi and Chummi were on there way to their distination until Igthorn stowed away on the blimp and took control of it and kidnapped Calla afterward. I liked Gummi Bears when it was on Disney Afternoon, but it could not hold a candle to Rescue Rangers or Ducktales. Seriously. In fact the two hour disney afternoon block of ducktales, rescue rangers, talespin, and darkwing duck was the best tv ever. Just plopping myself in front of the tv after school and enjoying.

I was just talking with some people about this show a few days ago at work. None of us could remember the name of the guy who turned out to be Duke Sigmond Igthorn. Thanks, wikipedia!

Also, when humans drank gummiberry juice, they became super strong, but only for like a minute or two. I think it may have had a similar effect upon ogres.

O sweet jesus I remember this show and its awesomeness. The part of canada I live in it use to come on all the time on saturday mornings. A few years ago a friend and I were going through some old VHS tapes he had. On them of course were cartoons, for a second when this came on I didn't clue in that it was the Gummy Bears but then it all came back. My friend and I both looked at each other and were like those mother fucking Gummy bears. It was weird but funny.
