I still think Shawn Elliott is one of the best/smartest people in the business, but sometimes his generally misanthropic and apathetic attitude becomes grating. It's much more apparent in Out of the Game than it ever was in GFW, probably because he's the host.

I also think N'Gai could be a bit more succinct. Sometimes he just rambles on and on.

Up his own ass really is the best description of Shawn. I loved listening to him on GFW until I realized that nearly every story was him being an overall shithead to people for playing games he didn't like. Mention a book/comic he didn't like? You/it gets shit on. Have an opinion he doesn't like? It gets "the voice" (not that a decent number of those people didn't deserve it). If he's writing or talking about something he likes? He's great, otherwise he pretty much becomes the worst forum troll ever.

I lost you whe you said Out of the Game was up its own ass.

It took you that long? Wow. He lost me when he implied videogames aren't worth shit but movies? They're important. Not to mention his assumption that not liking David Ellis' shitty podcast name and sense of humour == no sense of humour at all.

Also, I only listen to Out of the Game when Jeff Green's on there, cause he's awesome. I'm sick of Shawn Elliot, I go on/off on Robert Ashley and while I like N'Gai, I don't think he should be given free reign to talk about whatever's crossing his mind. He likes to ramble and it comes across a lot better in his writing.

Wow, dude. Look, the discussion about the importance of video games (they're fucking great and I love 'em, but important?) is not for this thread.

But, Jesus, man. Shitting on the podcast just because of it's name is just petty. The name fucking blows. It's been terrible ever since they've joked about it when the name changed from 1UP Yours to Listen UP. It will never be funny. Fuck me, I don't even think Ellis thinks it's funny. It's the curse of mentioning a joke name and having it stick. But you seem to have a massive hate-on for Ellis and anything associated with him. There's plenty of media out there with terrible names that rock. Will the podcast rock? Who knows. But to just flip it the bird cause of some childish name...

As for Out of the Game, I think the biggest problem is it's a Skypecast. Those dudes are cool and funny and have been before but having what is essentially a recorded phone conversation does it no favors. You can almost hear Jeff or Robert and especially Luke surf the web whenever the other two gentlemen start to ramble.

I couldn't get Some Other Castle off of ITunes today. Weird.

Look, Green and N'Gai make Out of the Game. Shawn just makes stupid jokes and craps on discussions. It is his schtick and no one call him on it.

Also, Ellis embraced that name. He could of changed it. Garnett even suggested that on the last show, but Ellis brushed it off.

There's supposed to be Demon's Souls discussion in that, isn't there? And Shane! Jeremy Parish makes the best podcasts <3

Indeed. With this and Retronauts I really don't need any other podcasts.

'cept maybe Bombcast for the absurdity. Parish seems to run a pretty tight ship in comparison.

Where did I even call videogames important? I was making fun of you because you seem to think movies are important. They're both entertainment mediums that are ultimately useless.

Neither. I just think that if you're going to start calling different mediums important or unimportant, most would fall under the unimportant category. That doesn't mean they can't inspire, excite or teach you, just that they're not necessary.

I would recommend everyone listen to this week's RebelFM, just for their second segment.

Kudos to whoever recommended Some Other Castle. It is no bombcast, but it fits into my rotation much better than 4 Guys ever will.

So the asshole they had on the Bombcast this week tried his damndest to fuck the whole show up.

Still had some good bits though.

Nah, I liked him. The fighting game discussion at the start was hilarious.

Also, the DSiWare segment was fantastic. Can't wait for Sparkle Snapshots!

Unbreakable, you are not at the cool kids' table on this one. The dude was funny. I wouldn't want him on there every week or even regularly, but he raises some hilarious conversations. Plus, Brad pretty much sleeps through the show now so it prevented the podcast from being the Jeff and Ryan show.

I do not even like fighting games, but the crazy amount of detail these guys obsess over kills me.

Any good PC-centric casts out there?

My faves right now are Idle Thumbs (:/) and the Bombcast.

Yeah, I thought Jared was a near-perfect Bombcast guest - different enough opinions from the crew to have interesting conversations and packing some good stories, but not trying to drunkenly take over the entire podcast and hijack things every 30 seconds.

He's not a weeaboo, he's a fighting game junkie. Mentioning an anime in passing does not a weeaboo make.

Yea, I'm not sure how anyone could dislike Jared on that Bombcast episode. He was fine.

Right, he's glad it will continue in some form. But when he announced he was leaving the other guys said they were going to continue Idle Thumbs, just probably not in podcast form. So I don't really think that's confirmation the podcast is going to continue.

But heck, I could be wrong. I'll listen to the (final?) podcast later.

I would be more than happy if they just did one podcast a month, whenever Hot Scoops is available. In fact, I would be ecstatic for any type of continuation, so I'm happy they at least seem to be considering it, instead of outright dismissal.

My meme ignorance is showing again: What's a "weeaboo?"

I agree that Jared fits in just fine on the Bombcast. Wasn't he the guy on several weeks ago who was making the movie trailer jokes? Those were mostly funny. "Michael Cera is...Halo."

If I have the wrong guy, I guess both are good fits.

Thanks to whoever recommended Another Castle. It got on my nerves at first, but I'm glad it's in my rotation now. That's pretty much how every podcast has worked for me, maybe except The Brodeo, which I liked from the start.

Also, on the somewhat dated topic of Shawn Elliott: Smart guy, glad he's making games, largely enjoy his podcasting. The only thing that bugs me is when he allows himself to generalize the gaming audience. The most recent example was on Out of the Game, maybe two episodes ago. It was when Jeff Green said he could return to writing about games, knowing that most of his readers were not the morons bombarding console-exclusive reviews with comments, while Shawn seemed to have convinced himself that the only people who looked at anything he wrote were only checking the score to plan their nerd rage. There have been plenty of other times that he gave me the impression that he thought gaming culture was most accurately represented by the worst of it.

In the final cast they said they'll do intermittent casts with Hot Scoops when they could get them together, but they probably won't be too often and definitely won't be weekly. The 'real' Thumbs cast is gone for good.

I really liked David Ellis before, but apparently as he gains more confidence he just gets more over-bearing. It's not really worth getting interesting personalities on your show if you're just going to cut them off and talk over them every time they take a breath. Think I might give the 1Up podcast a miss for a few weeks. Maybe by then Ellis would have learned that his job as host isn't just to talk for 75% of the show.
