The PAX 2006 Room-Share Thread

edited August 2006 in PAX Archive
Okay, PAX Hotel registration is open, and the rooms won't last forever. Let others share the cost, or find someone to room with. Here's how it works:

If you have a registered room:
Enter the following information:
Hotel: (Doubletree/Hilton, Red Lion, etc.)
Room Type: (ex.: 2 Queen Beds)
Nights Staying: (ex.: nights of the 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th. Make a note if it's all-or-nothing)
Beds Available: (Don't forget your own bed!)
Total Price for a Bed: (For all nights, assuming it is filled to capacity)
Bags Available:
Total Price for a Bag: (Same as above)
Smoking: (Yes or No)
Contact:(This is where your email goes, or just have them PM you)

Room Holders:

1) Don't post an opening until you have reservation # in hand. Rooms fill up quick, so you can't count on one being available for walk-ins.

2) Remember Washington State's 14.4% hotel tax in your room rates, unless you're extraordinarily generous.

3) When the first person checks in, his or her card will have a reservation placed on it for the full amount for everyone, which is then freed up in pieces as your guests pay. This is just how hotels work, and yes, it sucks.

4) Finally, remember to update your infopost as slots fill (and/or empty)

If you're looking for a room:
Read down the list until you find a suitable room with an available slot that meets your needs. Contact the room holder to reserve it.

As of now, I'm making my room available. Rates are up from last year, but are still the same split between all occupants (1/3 for bed, 1/6th for bags)

Hotel: Doubletree/Hilton Bellvue
Room Type: 2 Queen Beds
Nights Staying: 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th.*
Beds Available: 0
Total Price for a Bed: $175.41
Bags Available: 0
Total Price for a Bag: $87.70
Smoking: No
Contact: ctishman at gmail.com

*All or nothing. No reservations accepted for less than all four days.

My room is officially set up for quad occupancy, which means we won't get kicked out, and more importantly, that all 4 of us get a key. The downside to this is that it's $115+tax/night for the room, as opposed to $87+tax.

Can I reserve a bed with you, ctishman?
I promise not to play or sing Rush songs... much.

    Thanks in advance,

ROOM HOLDERS: CHECK YOUR RESERVATION DATES - I had my dates written as the 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th, which was right for last year, but wrong for this one. This year's hotel dates (assuming day-before arrival and morning-after departure) are the 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th.

$115 a night isnt too horrible, especially if you'll be splitting it between a couple people.

For E3, I'm going to have share a room with four people, and it's still $300 per person.

I may just end up looking to find a room to share rather than pay for one for myself.

Yeah it's going to be a madhouse anyway. This year I will be bringing along some tools so that it wont be that hard to connect the consoles to the TVs and I know SOMEONE will bring enough ethernet cable or wifi hubs to link up all the ds' and xboxen. I hope it's like one big hotel party.

Like ctishman, I'm making some space available for those that can't afford to go it alone, and don't have local friends planning to come along. For simplicity, I'm doing the same split.
    Hotel: Doubletree/Hilton
    Room Type: 2 Queens
    Nights Staying: 24, 25, 26, 27*
    Beds Available: 0
    Price for bed: $129.65
    Bags Available: 0
    Price for bag: $64.83
    Smoking: No
Contact: PM or drakenul at gmail.com

*Like ctishman, this is an all or nothing deal.

EDIT: Bed taken on 2/14/06. Last bag taken on 3/16/06 (post update on 3/23).

Also, will the guys that are sharing the room please PM or email me about if you would rather have 2 keys to share between us or 4 (since it affects price from what I posted, I'd rather poll the group).

Hate to technically double post (it's been from night to next afternoon) but how did you guys (ctishman/ElderCat) calculate your prices? I booked at the PAX rate for the same days/room type and my confirmation is saying $388.96 (including tax) which is how I got my numbers. Is there something I'm missing? Or is my comp's calculator way off?

I would like to call "dibs" on the next room with a bed available at the Red Lion. I'd crash at the Hilton with my guildie Drakenul, but he sucks at math and they don't have free internet in the rooms. I'm looking for all 4 nights (24-27). Just e-mail me with the bed price at spider at ih8uprod dot com when a room becomes available.

Edit: I no longer need a room. I got tired of holding out and just got a room to myself.

I don't suck at math, I'm just going on what I was told by the hotel's reservation system. And the Red Lion doesn't have free internet either (I was there last year).

This seems to conflict with all the free internet access we had while staying at the Red Lion for PAX05.

What I don't recall was the Red Lion having any convention space. Where the heck did they hide it?

Was that the D&D convention? I remember walking past a bunch of them, they didn't look like they were having a good time. Maybe it was because in addition to the swag I was wearing, I had my arms full, and they had nothing but untamed beards.

And you don't just get $5 off used games.
WKC is $59.99 New. Used is $34.99.
SO is $64.99 new used is $34.99.
Eternal Sonatra new is $34.99 used is $17.99.
You get a savings of 50% or more if your buying used.

actaully the 2xTree gets the honor of a convention of "The Musical Box Society" this year, I'm not sure why they need a gathering, I mean other than to rock out to the various music boxes and such. I really feel sorry for those people when PAX rolls around. I do hope that 2xTree people warned them, or maybe not....that might be more entertaining.

It's $115/night if you want quad occupancy registered. The main upside to this is that everyone gets a key, so you aren't always running back and forth to let people in.
