The Presets just dropped their fantastic new album, Apocalypso:

l_4565c09ef8bcd6d49f2f8abea3036cd2.jpg

their follow up to their also-fantastic debut album, Beams:

51SVAAGYFTL._SS500_.jpg.

The Presets are an Australian electronica duo, consisting of two fashion students(?). One half of the duo has branched off into solo work as well, producing under the name of K.I.M.

If you like Justice and Daft Punk circa Human After All, then The Presets should appeal to you.

    Ooo, thanks for the tip

Hopefully their new album will spawn as many awesome remixes as their last.

Which one is doing solo work, the talented one or the singer?

I'm pretty sure K.I.M is the non-vocal one.

    SPEAKING OF SAMPLES:

Since this is the closest thing to a music thread I'll ask if anyone knows what I'm talking about.

I was in a bar the other night and they played this song that was like a remix or a sample of Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin and I think it was being rapped over by a dude and then a chick. I couldn't really hear what was going on.

Anyone know what I'm talking about I've been trying to track it down

I wouldn't really say (their old album) is a lot like Justice or Daft Punk. Instead of funky fuzzed out bass and sawtooth synths, they have very driving dancefloor pop arrangements and a guy yellin' about stuff. The closest comparison I can think of is Tiga with a dash of industrial.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=qpN819k4sQA is one of their better tracks.

Yeah, different from Daft Punk, and the repetition isn't quite as clear, but still there is a crossover in fans of both bands.

My People is the lead single off their new album, and is sure to be club anthem in the next couple of months. For anyone who liked Girl and the Sea of Beams, If I Know You will appeal.

    I'm really digging Yippiyo-ay though.

It's pretty hard to listen to Girl and the Sea and not think of Tiga, but basically where I'm going with the analogy is that they're both producing music that texturally is meant for the dancefloor but structurally adheres to verse-chorus-verse pop. They also both use sparse, simple arrangements and rely heavily on vocal hooks to carry their songs.

t Ubik: Night Ripper is an album of mashups with a lot of classic rock and rap samples, but it doesn't have any Whole Lotta Love samples so I'm not sure why Ori linked to it. If the sample was looped for less than 30 seconds in a barrage of other unrelated songs, then it might've been a Girl Talk track.

    yep

Interstella 5555 is pretty much clips of the videos from Discovery back-to-back, telling a story of some sorts. A house music musical of sorts
