But then all you do is run. Running from slow moving guys isn't scary.

It's not always easy to run away from zombies. They'll find you eventually.
So they'll find you. Like, in a room. Let's say 40 of them. Then, since you're meant to run a lot, you don't have enough ammo. Let's say 20 shots.

All you need is one bullet at that moment.

People who liked RE as was?

Play RE1-CV and get the fuck over it, Jesus Christ. RE4 was a winning formula that nearly everyone loved and sold tons of copies. From RE5 it's apparent they're not going back to the old formula.

    Get over it.

Bah. C'mon, he's allowed to bitch that his favorite series is turning out the way it is. If ah.... Well, I'm not quite sure what game you like a lot... But if that game changed it's formula drastically like this one did, then you'd be bitching too.

Don't bother. Their one game easily overwrites the rest of the series and fuck anyone who isn't happy that they slapped the name on a game that had nothing to do with them.

The prototype had fucking ghosts in.

Sorry excuse my ignorance but can you explain this? Do you mean originally re4 was not going to be an RE game, and that it had ghosts instead, but then it was so good they made it the next RE game? is that right?
    Thats kinda cool.

I liked the original series, loved how scarey they were and the atmosphere, but then I absolutely loved RE 4 as well, i think im on my 14th playthrough on pro. Both are great games, surely they can both get along, without having to crush eachother?

What happened was that Capcom wanted to do something new with RE4 and it went through several different prototypes. Four or five, I think it was.

One became Devil May Cry and one became part of the basis for Haunting Ground.

One did, in fact, have ghosts. But eventually they ended up with the RE4 we have now.

No, the prototype RE4 had the old camera system from past games, starred Leon, and featured ghosts as enemies. They scrapped that, started over, and made the excellent RE4 as we know it.

There was one unknown prototype that was never discussed. Could it have been Dead Rising's idea?

Honestly, I have loved the RE games since the first. I still remember seeing my neighbor playing the original, and would just sit there, entranced by the game. I loved the second which, to this day, is still my favorite, bar-none. The third was an interesting one. Not my favorite, but still decent. And so on. Basically, what I'm saying is that I've played the entire series, and loved it.

That said, I like the direction they're going. Sure, I loved the formula they used in the old ones, and wouldn't mind to see it again. However, the action-oriented formula used in 4, with, perhaps, a bit more scare factor, would be amazing. All they're basically doing is attempting to scare you by different means.

I gotta say, I wanted this game so hard. I even made my web development final based on this prototype. I was so sad to see that the game never came to be.

Well, I moreso wanted this game because it looked so goddamn creepy. Sure, I absolutely loved RE4 as it was released, however, a part of me is sad that the paranormal-esque RE4 will never see the light of day.

i personally feel that making you kill the regenerators with a sniper rifle was a fantastic idea

because the times you encounter the bastards they are never far away from you

so if you are using the bolt action lobotomiser you'll have to reload after every shot and by the time you have got to the last hotspot the bastard is wheezing on the end of your rifle and oh goddd help meeee

I never had a problem with them. If they ever got close, somehow, I'd just use my shotgun. The one that had 100 shots; took them out just as easy as anyone, they did.

Edit: Unless you shot the legs first like an idiot.

Bolt action couldn't equip the infrared scope, you needed the automatic.

So watching videos from RE5 and reading about it more has made me realize just how much I detest everything about RE4.

I already didn't like RE4, but everything about it is repulsive.

That's weird, because I did not once even consider getting that Lady's Model of a rifle yet the scope worked just fine for me.

Is anyone worried that this will just be a new gen rehash of Resi 4?

I mean the similarities so far are quite clear.

To an extent yeah, that wouldn't be all that bad but I really hope they push it further. Maybe bring back some old RE staples; less ammo and weaponry, more scares/atmosphere/less action, some way to replace the merchant but retain the customisation, Multiple characters, etc. Oh and no bloody QTE which require you to hit one button as fast as you can.

    No, that's horrible, please don't.

The fact that RE4 was action-y, was one of the main reasons I loved it. I certainly think it should be harder, and it's obvious they are trying to make it more scarier, which is a plus, but I don't want RE5 to be an upgraded form of the earlier games.

On the whole RE classic vs RE4 debate :

RE 4 was not scary , not even in the least . Ammo was plenty and Leon was a fucking god . Besides that glaring flaw it was one of the best games I have ever played.

    So I propose a compromise.

    Keep new game play but:
    1)No random ammo
2)Tone down the upgrades the last upgrades broke the game and were pretty easy to get.
    3) The knife stays the same , it was useless in RE classic .I like it now.
4)Tone down the action commands , we know Chris/Leon are badass but they are not super human. Leave that to HUNK and Wesker.

Yes! I'm so glad someone brought this up. The knife is actually functional in RE4. I would always reload a save game if I ran out of bullets in the previous games, but, even though it's not ideal to run out of bullets in RE4, it's manageable.

Also, I don't mind the upgrades. I have a save file that is my 3rd or 4th time through the game. It's awesome to have a shotgun that holds 100 shells. Although, I can certainly understand someone wanting to save the crazy upgrades for the 2nd or 3rd playthough.

Man, I just remember how scary RE2 was when going into the police station... Those lickers walking around on the ceiling, and I only had 9 handgun bullets. Running into the next room only netted you 4 more zombies lunging at you.

Then when you go back to the room with the licker in it like 2 hours later, you forgot that you left him alive so when you enter the room you can hear him walking around...

Oh man I miss that. :(

RE4 only had one "jump scare" in the entire game and it got me, bad. Cause I was so used to it not having jump scares, other than maybe the dogs (but they weren't that scary.)

POOM OUT COMES A MAN ON FIRE
Shit...that part got me too. I was running through there with the shotgun. Luckily my immediate physical reaction was to reel back on my heels and shoot. The guy was only there for a second before catching a shotgun blast to the head and chest area. I'm not sure if he did anything other than that, but I wasn't about to give him the chance.

It would appear there ain't no rest for the wicked...who knew?

    I was being sarcastic.

If anything they have emphasised pretty much everything that people cited as reasons to accuse it of being racist, or 'edgy'.

I'm not ready to judge if I think it is racist, but I think it's probably not.

However, I'm not happy with the idea of being controversial just for the sake of it and/or to build hype, so it will take some convincing on Capcoms behalf to make me believe that the setting and thematic ideas going on are justified in the bigger picture, but so far they have the benefit of the doubt.

I certainly think saying "It's set in Africa. It's racist" is crazy, but by the same merit "It's just set in Africa. It can't possibly be racist" is just as crazy.
