After poking around on the nintendowifi.com site, I think the bulk of my problems lie with certain ports needing to be open on my router, and I wouldn't doubt that this is the case for a lot of people.

Which is kind of a shame, seeing as how Nintendo's biggest angle for WFC is "easy, no hassle online." Opening ports on routers is quite a pain. Although Metroid seems to be the only one I have trouble with. Tetris was a breeze last night, and went quite well!

I am sad I couldn't be around for the Mario Karting, though.

But would this be a problem even if you're using the USB Connector?

I just got Bleach DS though, and my oh my, one of the greatest portable fighters ever!

I'm thinking so, because even if I'm using my laptop with a wired connection it's still hooked up to my router. I could always unhook the router and plug straight into my laptop, but that's a pain to do and also requires me to get the dongle. (Which I may want to do anyway, though.)

I'm not very well versed in networking lore, though, so I may have to ask my brother for assistance.

I had a much easier time connecting to 4-player games once I opened up a bajillion ports on my wired router. (I use the USB connector.)

Yeah, I think I did last night, too. Here's what nintendowifi.com says:

Allowing TCP and UDP Traffic:
The Nintendo DS requires unrestricted access to several sites across various ports and protocols to function correctly. These addresses and ports vary according to game, and may change in the future without notice. Many software firewalls restrict outbound access. Only if your firewall blocks outbound traffic do you need to enable this traffic:

TCP:
Allow traffic to all destinations on ports: 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, and 443

UDP:
Allow all traffic to all destinations. (Necessary for peer-to-peer connections and game play). The Network Test tool can be used from a computer behind your firewall to test if outbound UDP is allowed.

I have MKDS but have not yet gone online with it. I might fire it up pretty soon if my BF2 clan's practice is over quickly.

What's the official verdict on snaking? IMO, it should be disallowed to allow for more kart choices, as 'snaking allowed' pretty much means egg kart.

It depends on who you're racing, really. Some of us snake and some don't. I personally don't, while others only snake if they see others snaking. It's about as fair as we can get.

I'm on right now searching for friends. Let's get some racing on for an hour or so!

I always thought it was silly to designate specific games for specific days. I only have Bleach, and that's all I'll have until Bomberman Wi-Fi, probably.

i need some mario kart with good people, i just played today and i rememered why i stopped playing random games, either my opponents snake and i lose, or they don't snake and i crush them *40 points, i didn't try my last round because i didn't need it to win, but i won anyways* so i need some mario kart action with good non-snakey people. pm me your code so i can add you before mario kart day.
