Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
A lot of us rolled together in Final Fantasy XI, which began almost three years ago, in the ClawShrimp linkshell on the Carbuncle server. Now, thanks to Square-Enix's Return to Vana'diel campaign, there's a few of us that are... well, returning to Vana'diel again. If you played with us before in the linkshell, come back and join us; it's free for a month, and I'm looking at specific people here, like Starfuck, Disdena, Tyberius, !CaTfIsH!, Shiosai, and fucking Rag. If you've never played the game before, and want to give it a shot, you can pick up the Gold edition of the game which includes the first two expansions for $20, and with that, you get a guest pass for a friend for thirty days, as well.
Sorry guys, as I already told Sneak in PMz, I have really, really, really accomplished all that I ever wanted to in that game. I detest raid-style endgame content, getting those last 18 levels of Clothcraft would take tens of millions of wasted Gil just to see a "(100)" on my character screen, and doing any kind of grinding on my lower level jobs would just be pathetically redundant. Let me make that a little more clear: you know the "secret room" in CN where people pull flies and Soldier Crawlers around level 42-44? I've sat in there on not one, not two, but six jobs. There's no way that doing it over again a seventh time would give me any kind of fulfillment. Stick the proverbial fork in me.
And I can't see going through the trouble of installing and signing up again just to stare at a Moogle's ass while using the game as a chatroom. However, I would be hells of interested in playing some other online game with the Clawshrimp crew. There are any number of free and very well made MUDs out there, if you guys could stomach a text-based game. Otherwise, there are any number of free and fairly terrible Korean MMORPGs as well.

I'm leveling in the Aht Urhgan areas now. It's not the same old same old for me anymore!
Yuufuu and Menetherin are still in this fucking game.

Those two are ridiculous. I can't imagine how many 75 jobs they have by now.
It's too bad you don't want to play this, Dis, but definitely understandable. I noticed your suggestions revolved around games that are free, so I'm curious if you just don't want to pay for a game right now or if you're already paying for something else. If you're in WoW or CoV, I could roll an alt or start a CoV trial. I'm pretty much up for anything right now, and FFXI is just one of those anythings. Once I figure out which I enjoy most I'll subscribe to it.
I would pick up the game again if they removed the monthy fee. As it is now, I only play 1 MMO that has a fee while I rock harder on free ones (like UO and AO)
only sucky loser MMOs throw away their fee, because their content is too shitty to draw people in with a monthly fee or if the game is so old a 386 could act as a server for it.

It's kind of silly, but this is just how I feel about paying for games. In the Golden Age of FFXI, I was either unemployed with some social life or employed with no social life, so spending 8 hours logged in everyday was no problem. If I were to start playing a monthly fee game again, I'd feel obligated to be logged on as much as possible in order to make sure I was getting my money's worth. This is especially absurd considering that one week's pay covers a few years of subscription fees. But if the game's free to play, then I'd be fine playing as much or as little as I feel like.
CoV, eh. I played CoH for a little while, and while I know the golden rule of MMORPGs is not to judge them by the newbie levels, I found the combat (and let's face it, there's nothing else to the game) unenjoyable because it lacked the things I liked about FFXI combat. Too little punishment for carelessness = too little reward for skill.
As for WoW... well, this is also perhaps a little silly, but again it's just one of those things about how I am. I guess this would also apply to CoV as well as just about any other game that is well-established and has a considerable following already. If I'm playing some single player game or a multiplayer game with just friends (private Diablo II game, or like... X-Men 2 on PS2), it doesn't matter to me at all if the character I chose to be isn't as powerful as the others, or if the build I went with is much weaker than any of the "ideal" builds that other players have figured out. But if I'm playing something massive where I feel like there are others who I have to measure up to, I have to go research what works and go with that. I'd rather have the freedom to do stuff for myself, and I feel better about doing that in a relatively unknown game.

That's just how it is. If I went and got a WoW account and rolled, like, an undead rogue or something, I would feel like 100,000 undead rogues already played through the game for me and can tell me exactly what to do, what to wear, and where to go, down to a tenth of a percent of a skill point. It's just not as fun for me.
Unfortunately, I do not have either of the past two expansions since I quit last June. But since I'll be starting over fresh anyway, that's not that much of a problem.

I've had some serious FFXI problems in my life.
I love this fucking game.

It's a pretty good game, but there's like, a whole forum for that.

I said this thread is retarded and everyone who plays it are scat fiends.
No, Raneados, unless someone gives you a guest pass. Then you play free for a month!
I will seriously fucking kill you.
OR I DON'T PLAY
AHAHA TAKE THAT
Sari.
P.S. -- Sneak, my away message does not denote sex, get your mind out of the gutter.
Unfortunately, I do not play on Carbuncle so I'd need a world pass.

I think the question boils down to this:
Do you want to play a game with A duck!
